Hey im trying to do a pretty decent sized project on my 88 ranger.

ive got almost everything i need so far but im running into some problems with finding a transmission to work with my new motor

im putting in a 3.8 supercharged V6 from a 92 thunderbird... what i need to know is what types of trannsmissions will go with it, i need a 4X4 transmission that PreFerAbly has overdrive so i can get a lil better gas millage

i know that the SC 3.8 will bolt to V8 transmmisons from a F150

BUT they dam V8 Tranny is HUGE and will extend dam near all the way to the bed of my truck =[ and thats a b*&$h of a job to do

SOOOO is there a good V6 Tranny that has overdrive and bolts on????

THX for any help you can offer :icon_hornsup:

PS end product will be 4 inch lift 31 inch tires, 8.8 rear, dana 35 front, 3.8 V6 supercharged motor, and (if i ever figure it out) more better tranny lol, paint Black, 8 speaker sound system with additional 2 ten inch 400 wat subs, roll bar with KC day lighters SMILE, shes going to be a sexy sexy lady

what year sc and you may be able to use a T5 manual with the sc manual belhousing .

The V8 trannys arn't that big. I have one under my B2, (with no body lift) so do lotsa guys.

Expensive option: bolt on a V8 transmission and buy the (IMO, underwhelming/overpriced) Adapter (from Advanced Adapters)

Cheap option: You have enough wheelbase you could (maybe) run a divorced transfer case, this would allow you to just use any V6 trans that you like. Then all you have to do is mount your T-case and button up the front of it and have a driveshaft shop make a receiver shaft.

i do beleive the 3.8 is outa a 92 SC

Dishtowel- do you got any pics of the underside of you B2 i looked thru your Photobucket a lil bit but im in a hurry and you got alot of pics lol

No good pics now, perhaps I'll get some later.

Dont get me wrong, it's not a 'roomy' fit. It's a tight fit. But completely do'able. I knocked two small holes (with an electrical knock-out tool) in my firewall so I could get to the top two bellhouseing bolts (without having to remove the upper intake manifold) I put the engine + trans IN as one unit, but I have had the trans out 3 different times this summer. (frost plug, breather remodeling, and.... i forget, lol)

Like I said, I have no body lift, and my transmission is above the bottom of my frame rails, safely tucked up high. If you put the engine lower you will have an easier time of it.

alright cool Mine is going to have 2 inch body lift so itll be easy then, only reall thing i got to think hard on now is how to do the motor mounts

Do you know what your doing for a shifter? This is what I did, and it is alright, but because both my engine and transmission are mounted on rubber isolaters it can sometimes 'jump' a setting when your in the rough stuff, rocking, or really put your foot in it. I think I am going to do something different.

havent even thought about doing the shiffter yet im going to tackle one thing at a time this weekend will be the front axel and maybe the rear if i can

but im probably going to end up doing about te same for my shifter

If you want an automatic I would go with a AOD and a fullsize transfer case.

I am going with a C-4/5 mutant with the stock 1350 transfer case. C-5's came in early RBV's from the factory, 83-84. No over drive though...
