I've got a 1987 Ranger and am not far from replacing the ignition lock cylinder (it's developing problems with turning and sticking). When I do this, I'm wanting to also see about replacing the door lock cylinders with something from ford that is newer and uses the same key type as the ignition switch to get me to a later model feel by having a single key. I've noticed that my ignition switch key fits into a 2004ish E350 cab door lock easily and that the keys are similar except for the e350 key having a thin groove down the center side of the key.

What I was contemplating was attempting to use a pair of door locks from the e350 or similar keyed to work from the new ignition key lock cylinder. Does anyone have any experience coverting the old school dual-key ford rangers to the newer style single key, or can maybe point me in the correct directions?

use '91 or newer ranger door cylinders and rekey them to match your new ignition (it's basically the same as a kwikset house setup, once you get the cylinders you will see). I've been pondering the same thing for my truck

Why! IMO one key is a bad Ideal. (you sacrifice security for CONVENIENCE!)

My Bronco is setup for 1 key. I don't remember where I got the door lock tumblers from but they are FORD parts. Maybe try the foor parts counter, or napa.

It wouldn't be that hard to steal a truck and not know or care if it took one key or 5 to get in and start... (brick thru the window, cordless drill to ignition cylinder)
