Im trying to remove a front drive shaft from a 1986 ford ranger with a 1350 borg warner transfer case. It has the splined shaft to the transfer case. I bought the truck with out a transmission or transfer case and my usual fords had the easy four bolts to remove before. Someone please help me so I can finish the project. Just about all I have to do to finish. And if I could get those for small bolts out of the driveshaft never the front differential, i could just leave the shaft in the transfer case and not worry about removing it. When I bought the truck, the front shaft was still attached to the differential and any wrench or socket I tried keeps slipping. Any help would be appreciated. keebler

Some of those had a torx head in the middle. Have you tried using a torx? I had the same problem, ended up jamming a torx in (1 size bigger than the hole) and pounding on the ratchet lightly until it broke free.

Use the torx if you can you can buy replacements at the parts house so change them once you get them out. What works for me is 1/4 inch drive deep well sockets there 6 sided and have thinner walls hook right up.Mine are Craftsman if that makes a difference.

I checked the bolts and they dont have torx in the middle. Im going to use the 1_4 deep well socket and replace them before I in the transfer case. I got the splined shaft out of the tranfer case by slowly hitting the u joints on the shaft with a hammer and it slid right out. I def use craftsman, as much stuff as I tear up, gotta have that lifetime warranty. Thanks guys

Guys, I cleaned all the mud off of the bolts on my front drive shaft, it had torxs in the center of the bolts. Got my project truck done finally. Thank god for yall suggestion of a torx in the bolts, just glad yall suggested that. Saved me alot of time

Glad we could help. Welcome to the Station.
