1986 Ford Ranger AC compressor model

Looks factory controls I believe, the components look like a dealer/aftermarket install for the previous owner of the car, I appreciate all the input from people seems like I have a little work ahead of me to get the ac blowing cold again

That is the factory equipped HVAC panel...I'll run out and get the dealer installed AC photos on my 87 Ranger.

Even the installation bracketry in the OP is incorrect for anything...that whole system was cobbled together by somebody probably as a way to sell it for more money because it had working AC for a while, probably long enough to get it sold LOL. Being that old it definitely would have had R12 in it. R134A was around in the early to mid 90's but mostly started being used in the late 90's by all automakers.

I'd go grab the proper AC components and put it together properly. Most likely with all those hose clamps on there it had several leaks, and eventually it quit working and...well now you are left with cleaning up someone's half ass attempt at having AC. Most of the junk yard trucks I've ran across either have factory AC or no AC at all in my area. The trouble is that system will need to be disassembled completely and the condenser and evaporator flushed out if not replaced completely...who knows what kind of contaminants went through that system and if the AC Compressor did in fact fail, it usually will release metal pieces into the system...the AC compressor could in fact work, but without a charge of refrigerant in the system you can't find out as there has to be enough refrigerant in the system to allow the low pressure and high pressure switches to function thus turning the compressor on and off.

On the back of the compressor it looks like service ports and those ports do look like the newer R134a connections, so its possible someone did install it and did have R134a in the system....course like I mentioned it has probably all leaked out by now so the system won't work. Check all your electrical connections and make sure the compressor is getting power to the clutch. Someone had cut some wires under the hood of my Ranger and they were to my AC compressor clutch, so the AC wasn't working...easy fix for me, but with the cobbled together mess on the OP's truck, its most likely something far more difficult and expensive to repair.

I have this very same system. Compressor and controls. My compressor works fine but I did google the tag on it and did find them for sale. My system uses the same clamps and everything. Maybe if not factory certainly some kind of aftermarket kit that may be common to find parts for.

This is what you have. They used them but not as much as the one you always see. Not sure why some trucks got this. Some people think there systems patched together but look like the were factory or after market factory parts
