1986 ford f-150- various questions

......however, a 300 will lug that 8000lb camper around just fine at 55 and under, as long as you dont wanna pass.

Sure, but so would ANY OTHER motor in that size range from the last 30 years.

Sure, the 300 is a good motor with possiblities, but they are much less than a 351W. I want something that will do everything. Anyways, it is not like 300 mileage is great or anything, there is really no advantage to it. I am planning to build a good pickup, I would rather do it right the first time. Besides, modifying off the wall engines with little aftermarket selection is always expensive; the 3.0 is another good example. In the end, better just to get a
V8.

Actually the 300 has alot of virtues over a 351....and fast,I really doubt a 4.3L, 292, or a 225 would pull like a 300 will.

First off, the 300 has 7 main bearing, the 351 has 4. The bottom end is absoultly indestructable.

300's are very, almost scary simple to work on.

They are capable of tons of low end torque, they pull just as well as a 351, untill you get into 55-70 runs, then the extra 2 cylinders and 51CI come in handy.

300,000+ is not uncommon for a 300.

They have timing gears, not a chain, therefore they rarely (if ever) have timing issues.

Im not badmouthing the 351...i think its a great engine, and tons better then a 302, but the 300 is a good, hardworking engine that will do anything you ever want it to do.

Dusty I think you need to change your sig to Official Defender of the 2.9 and 300. :)

They are good motors, but not as many parts are available for them, that was my point. A 351 Windsor has all kinds of lovely crap available for it.

Ohh...your looking at modification Potential.

Well thats understandable togo with the 351...allthough with a little moneyand time the 300 can be a good performer.
