Hey all, new to the ranger forum. I have a 1986 Ranger and I am in need of some fuel tank options. I have seen before where some have used B2 tanks but those will hang too low. I have seen that some have used E150 rear tanks? Will these work on rangers as well or what other options do I have since you cannot get a 108" 4x4 fuel tank. I would like to do the rear swap but do not know if the E150 will work without relocating the left shock which mounts to the rear of the axle.:dunno::sad::annoyed:

Umm... maybe this is a stupid question...but why won't a RWD fuel tank work? The frame is essentially the same from the front cab mounts back...is the transfer case in the way or something?

I am well aware that the rear tanks are no longer available but what's wrong with the front tank that you have now?

I have no idea if B2 tanks work or not. I was going to swap one into my truck and I even had the tank and skid plate for a while but like you said, they hang down awful low and I am already dragging my 11 gallon tank skid plate on stuff frequently so I scrapped that idea.

My best advice: take some measurements, go to the junkyard and buy a tank and make it fit. You will have to do some fabrication for sure to make any non factory tank work.

I am at the point of looking for a fuel cell for mine. I removed the front tank years ago and the rear tank is crushed in, in multiple places and I can't find another good one.

The tank that is in there now has rusted completely through in multiple locations, I have ordered the E150 tank to see if it will fit in the real world. Pictures to come up tonight/tomorrow when I get time to install. I believe the 2wd will get in the way of the transfer case like you were saying.

I know I took a 87/88 tank out of a Ranger and put it in my 84 SWB 4x4 Ranger (I wanted the in tank pump) it was a little off, but fit pretty well (hangers were a bit different, but worked without any mods)

Does anyone know how to start a new thread or post? I'm new to this site.

First of all, welcome to TRS!

Now for proper posting in our (or any other online forum for that matter :))

Do an extensive search for the topic that you are going to post on. chances are that it may be covered already, and you will get the feel of the other members of the site and which ones know their stuff.

Once you are ready to post, put on your flame retardant suit, watch out for low flying bs and go to the specific subforum that you want to post in and look for the "New Thread" button toward the top left of the page and post away.

Regards,

AJ

Maybe apples and oranges. Ive repaired several BMW tanks with JBWeld. Take the rust off with a wire wheel down to bare metal. You probably expose more pinholes. Goop em with JBWeld and test with water. Let the JBWeld cure over night before putting gas in it,
