i need to know if it can be done??:icon_confused:

I think so. If I remember correctly, Joe Morgan made a 92 out of a 86. But I don't know if he changed cabs. I know he change all the front end and bed. Take some measurements.:)shady

I put all my 90 stuff into a 88 cab. PAIN IN THE BUTT as almost nothing is the same between them. About the only real things that stay the same, windshield, rear window, door locations and the opening in the firewall for the heater core. EVERYTHING else is different.

On the other hand, I cut the headlight buckets between the two, and used the 90 buckets for the 88 cab. Not the best solution, but cheap...

When doing a single cab things like the cab mounts may be close...but you may need to move them a bit...anything can be done...but like Shady says...measure...and measure again...

But just as a side comment...it's easier to swap out the same year of any model...the less you have to change the less likely your project will be delayed for an unspecified amount of time...

Five years and counting on mine...but it wasn't a cab swap...although that was my initial project...to put an ext cab on a single cab frame...

they use the same body mounts up to 97 if i'm not mistaken, so its possible if you double check the mount spacing

a gen2 cab will go right onto a gen1 frame.

the only thing different is some holes will need to be drilled in the
sides of the frame horns to mount the bumper and the front 3/4"
of the frame horn ends will need to be cut off (clearance Vs the bumper bracket.)

Then you get to swap out the fuel tank if you want the guage to work...
the sender units are not interchangeable bbetween the metal gen1 tanks
and the plastic Gen2 tanks
