1974 Ford Maverick!

That should improve the looks. Paint looks really good too, I am going to be waxing much worse tomorrow night.

yeah the paint came out okay. better than it was, and cheap as heck. will do the whole car for $50 so I cant really complain.

the bumpers im super stoked about. will totally change the look of the car. they're shipping to the border from texas and i'll probably run down and get em next week or the week after.

Looks good, almost makes me miss my old one.

What are you using on paint?

For paint I'm being REAL cheap. I'm using Tremclad Rust Paint. (Called Rustoleum in the US, same stuff)

$50 for paint, $10 for mineral spirits to thin. Will do the whole car with some left over. Good enough for a few years. Once I save up some cash i'll get it done properly with 2 stage base/clear.

as for the bumper valances....
Got EEEEEEM!

I'll be hitting them with paint stripper tonight after work and getting them ready for paint on the weekend.

Well, things have basically come to a stand still for now. While modifying the front fenders for the small bumper conversion, I came across a mess of rust one of the previous owners tried hiding by simply putting new metal over top. instead of cutting out and replacing. so, I have to get that taken care of before the small bumper goes on up front. Will likely just end up getting new fenders from ebay. Going to need some overtime for that.

Such a cool car, my buddy had a '77 that we did a lot of work to in high school. It also had the inline 6, which was a turd, and we replaced that with what we thought was a 302, which ended up actually being a 255, and it was still pretty slow, but a V8 nonetheless! Mavericks and Comets are some of my favorite cars from the 70's. Yours looks very clean.

Some updates are coming soon, I've done a bit to the car since my last post, just haven't had time to post. After this weekend I'll be doing more and will update then.

I haven't ditched this project :)

Alrighty, Update time since a few things have happened.

I finally finished my small bumper swap, the big bumpers came off the second weekend I had the car (around a year ago) and i've been driving it around locally without bumpers while I waited to get a set of small bumpers off an earlier year car. These are hard to find for a good price, but after a long time of waiting and looking all over, I came up with a pretty decent set of bumpers.

The front actually showed up first in may, but I had no brackets for it and was still trying to hunt down a set of those, so the rear ended up going on first as the one I found came with brackets.

some shots of the rear installed.

Then last week I finally got front brackets in, and was able to slap the front bumper on last night. so the small bumper swap is complete!

Painted the rear blue / white striped valance solid white today as well, the front I might paint as well, we'll see.

and here's a before and after. big bumper vs small bumper.

I also started working on a new grill, progress is slow on this because I got so much stuff going on, and the car already has a grill so this isnt a priority, but the shell is done. just need to make brackets and fill in the open space with expanded metal.
