15mpg on a 4cyl?!?!?!? Please help.

That's typical of the mid 90's 2.3L Rangers.............that's what I got with my 94 and I also had a 2000 Supercab 4x2 w/3.0L auto that got the same crappy 15mpg, that's why I went fullsize then, figured if I'm gonna get 15mpg I'm gonna have a V8, room, & POWER!

Isn't what ya wanted to hear, but that's been my experiences......

It may not be uncommon to run across broken trucks, but that doesn't make it acceptable. A properly running 2.3 will consistently return low 20's in town and mid 20's on the highway. My record low so far with the '94 2.3 is 22mpg, and I've gone as high as 27 on the highway.

Hello,

I am currently getting the best mileage I have since I got my 97 Ranger 3 yrs ago (with 38K original miles). I'm getting a mixed mpg of around 17. It should be noted that I have an automatic trans, A/C and CA Smog; all of which, I'm sure, takes away from my potential mileage. That said, good luck. I may have to try that seafoam stuff... who knows?

Edit: I've also changed over to 16 inch rims and 245-50-16s all around

Hmmm 2.3 187k 5 speed . Im getting 15-18 mpg . Has anyone taken the belt off and gone with out pwerstering ?? Yes I know the belt runs other things . I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this . Two what about taller tires and ratios .from 225/70/14 to 265/70/15 the new ford rims and tires .

Yes...I removed power steering, A/C, and swapped out the front steering assembly to use with the manual (Armstrong) steering...I was getting over 20 mpg...and had gotten as high as 30 (OK, just one or two tanks)...but was averaging 25 mpg...mostly highway driving...with a standard cab...

My 94 Ranger 2.3L 5-speed with 260K + miles gets just under 24 MPG. I did modify it slightly though.

I had the ICM failure that caused occasional periods of misfires. It was so bad that I took it to the shop and they replaced the ICM. But before they did the unburned gas burned out the O2 sensor and burned a hole in the CAT. I replaced the CAT but decided to do a little testing before I replace the O2 sensor. See the data here:

I've given up on ever getting descent milage out of mine. 16-18mpg is all I get. No codes & I can't seem to find anything wrong with it.
