you say you have the shift linkage for that 1350 you have in your back yard? why not install it and use it to work the cables? you'll have to fab up a couple brackets to hold the cable sheaths, one in front and one behind the end of the shift lever. if your lucky and can get the slack adjusted right, this might even give you detents for 2-hi, 4-hi, neutral, and 4-low.

Maybe the fact that it was bolted behind the ball-less 2.9L....

It's just as strong as a 1354.

It can handle a 302, no problem.
