how do you get at the top bolts that hold the transfer case to the tail housing? they are so close to the floor i can't get any tools in there plus they are red lock tite on! there has to be a easier way! would it be possible to get at them if you take off the floor plate? :bawling:

That's usually how I do it...

Floor plate, or use a couple extentions with a swival adaptor. I can have my 1354 t-case out in about 10 minutes without taking the floor plate off.

10 minutes??!! WTF i bet there isn't red loc tite on all of the *$^#@ bolts! lol ok i'll try the floor plate :icon_thumby:

It helps if you put a jack under the tranny, remove the crossmember, and lower the tranny to give your self some more room.

Also, the 5 bolts that hold the tcase to the tranny are open ended so the aluminum corrodes and liked to make the aluminum gall up on the bolts as your removing them. It sucks. I have done a few. Some times its easier to pull the extension housing off the tranny and then pull the tcase off the extension housing. Good luck!

ok i got it out! taking out the floor plate made it a snap! what i am doing is switching from auto to manual tcase but i took a closer look at the manual one i have and it has a electrical plug above the vent. the auto didn't have one. what is this for? here is a pic of what i am talking about: http://s445.photobucket.com/albums/qq171/bnichols04/ranger tcase/

It's for the 4x4 indicator lights on the dash.
