1350 to1354

Yes sir, it will bolt right up. You may have to modify a shifter to work with that set-up if your using a manual shift 13-50.

:D

flippin' sweet. Now just have to see if the guy calls back. May of just scored a $40 t-case.

You do know the front driveshaft is different between the 13-50 and the 13-54. You will need to do some work there.

Well I've been catchin' some bits and pieces here or there about yoke differences I think? Is this what you're referring to?

Since I'm doing a 2wd-4wd conversion, I still have to buy a driveshaft one way or the other, so I'm not too worried, but sounds like I need to have the correct info before heading to the salvage yd.

The 13-50 uses a slip joint at the t-case. (I found 2 very early model cases that the bolts used to attach the trans and case together were standard thread. Every other one I seen were metric.)

The 13-50 STX case uses a fixed yoke and the slip is built into the driveshaft.

The 13-54 is similar to the STX case but uses a little bit bigger u-joint. There is no internal u-joint in the 13-54, so the front output was shorter. Early 54s used the 4 gear planetary low range, they were changed to 6 gear after a while. (also changed to a new style shift hub , and fork.)

Around 97-98 they changed the front output of the 13-54 to a CV joint.

Get the front driveshaft from the 1354 donor (I'm doubting your existing shaft will work, it'll probably be too short).

You'll need to have the 1354's driveshaft shortened 2" because of your FM145 trans.

The shafts are length matched to the trans. Your suggestion is self defeating because you are telling him to ditch the existing shaft and then have another one shortened tot he same length.

Well guys I got the t case installed.. the front drive shaft I got for the 1354 does fit but its is a bit too long and will have to be shortened. Problem is the t case wasn't the problem. Either the rear drive shaft i had made has angle issues or my backlash has loosened up.. I've got a weird noise under deceleration and sometimes part throttle. Any ideas?

And if you wanna see the differences between 1350 fixed yoke and 1354..

Have you tried the original front shaft in the truck since the new case was installed?

The original Stx front shaft is not only way too short it also has a smaller cv joint at the t case side.. however I did notice that the slip yoke on the original shaft is much shorter than the 1354's I'm thinking about swapping them to make the shaft a bit shorter. Can't afford the drive shaft shop right now..

Yep. Nothing to be self-defeated here. This combination of drivetrain components is something that was never offered from the factory.

I'm not sure swapping the slip piece would work though because of the u-joint (you would have to swap the t-case output yoke, which I don't know if they're swappable or not). If it does swap, I guess it could work as a temporary solution. IMO, those tiny little u-joints shouldn't be on anything bigger than a golf cart.

Edit:
Or is the slip-yoke at the axle end by chance? If so, then maybe you got something worth trying out (hopefully the splines are the same).

At the axle end. I think I might go for it worth a shot and doesn't cost anything.. who on here is a good noise diagnostic person?
