110 MPG from an 87 Mustang

Are you forgetting microcars? We have one in the family that gets 100-110 mpg depending on conditions. It is a regular box frame, fiberglass body, three wheels, ICE.

A car light enough that one of two people could pick it up would have a prayer, but it wouldn't be easy. Though I'd be VERY concerned about a three-wheel design for unrelated (safety) reasons. Three-wheelers are substantially easier to tip over than four-wheelers.

Heck, the Gossamer Albatross made it around the world (very slowly) using a fraction of a horsepower. Sure, it's possible if you're allowed to bend the conditions beyond where the market will let you. No one is going to fly ultralights commercially for a number of reasons (not the least of which is that it's much faster to drive).

I don't think microcars are likely ever to be commercial successes, for similar reasons. But that IS the direction one has to go if one is to get big improvements in mileage.

i had already seen a different writeup about that car, thats why i put up the bs flag.

i am sure its tuned down to 30 hp at s.s. cruise. but e85 and high mpg isnt a easy thing to do with a 2800-3300 pound car.

It's kind of like a 500lb man going through the day on just a snickers bar. Ain't gonna happen.

my bros 87 5.0 stang gets like 15mpg, and that can do 130 in 2nd gear no trouble, im pretty sure he cant tweak it to get 110...

This makes just as much sense as asking a blind man for directions.

You'd like to see that...

People in HELL would like ice water.
