i bought a sub and amp last month and i'm a bit confused about if they will work together. i bought a 10" JL sub with enclosure and the web site says:Continuous Power Handling: 300W

my understanding is that the max watts to go through this sub should be 300w, correct?

when i bought this the guy at the store sold me a amp that puts out 1000w. it says something in the manual like
400W x 1 @ 4 ohm
700W x 1 @ 2 ohm
1000W x 1 @ 1 ohm

whats all that mean? can it be used with my sub?

sub; http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures.php?menu=8&prod_id=315
amp; http://tma.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=436

thanks for help!

It's a one channel amp and the speaker is 4 ohms. IMO, you're good. When you initially try it, keep the gain down and go from there.

at 4 ohms your sub is rated for 300W the amp at 4 ohms is rated for 400W just keep the amp and head unit at 75% and you should be good,

search around the web and find how to correctly set your gain using a dmm. your definitly gonna have to be carefull. i dont see that your amp has a subsonic filter. so make sure not use your amps bass boost. and dont use any "loud" or bass boost setting from your deck you can easily overboost the signal and send too much power to the sub.
