1995 and up Rangers had the new EEC-V 104 wire computer(PCM), and yes all engines from then thru 2011 were SFI
Ford could do SFI with the EEC-IV 60 wire PCMs, and they did in several V8 models, thats why the A9L and A9P PCMs were/are so popular, they are SFI, but you need to use the correct distributor that has the #1 vane indicator and have it setup correctly
For the pre-1995 4.0ls just the ones with Calif. Emissions got the SFI, and also had cam sensor and EGR
Just FYI, all Ford's start in Batch Fire, even in 2022 as far as I know, SFI takes over a few seconds later
And the PCM will switch to Batch Fire if there is a misfire detected, so a "misfire" on cylinder 3, for example, is usually not the injector since computer has already eliminated that possibility
Spark or compression(burnt valve) are way more likely
