10% EFFICIENCY GAIN WITH SFI MEGA$QUIRT?

Doesn’t the SFI come with the change from EECIV to EECV? I was quite sure that was the main change and the additional sensor in the former place of the distributor provided the cam sync trigger to the new ECU?

1995 and up Rangers had the new EEC-V 104 wire computer(PCM), and yes all engines from then thru 2011 were SFI

Ford could do SFI with the EEC-IV 60 wire PCMs, and they did in several V8 models, thats why the A9L and A9P PCMs were/are so popular, they are SFI, but you need to use the correct distributor that has the #1 vane indicator and have it setup correctly

For the pre-1995 4.0ls just the ones with Calif. Emissions got the SFI, and also had cam sensor and EGR

Just FYI, all Ford's start in Batch Fire, even in 2022 as far as I know, SFI takes over a few seconds later
And the PCM will switch to Batch Fire if there is a misfire detected, so a "misfire" on cylinder 3, for example, is usually not the injector since computer has already eliminated that possibility
Spark or compression(burnt valve) are way more likely

@RonD,

Confirmed SFI on engine, even the engine bay emissions sticker calls it out, reading:
RFM4.028GFEA-TWA/HO2S/EGR/SFI

The Explorer door sticker says this Bohemoth weighs 5,280 lbs.??? The life of the 4.0l sure is looking easier/better in the 3480 lb. BII!

That weight seems high, I thought the 1st gen Explorer 4 door 4x4 was 4,000lbs curb weight
5,280lbs might be GVWR, max weight allowed for vehicle, passengers and gear, so 1,280lbs over curb weight

I think that you are correct, I was expecting 4050 lbs. In my excitement today, RIGHT

Thank you ..)
