10/15 Kansas Rocks

Ok, Saturday is when it really got interesting from an offroading point of view.

The variety of trucks was fun, lots of different ones like this Scrambler.

How you can tell where the heck you are at.

Ran into the Jeep club from Omaha "Just Jeeps of Omaha" which was neat. They were nice and welcomed us to tag along.

Hard to say exactly what they thought of us, they were curious about our car and asked what all I had done to it. Basically nothing, just the lights radio and receiver hitch.

I had been dogging along trying to figure this new fangled thing out. 4hi was kind of a joke, 4lo was ok but I just wasn't super happy. Then I remembered I have GOAT modes to play with. Rock Crawl... words can not describe. First off when you set it you get this screen which has about everything a guy needs to know.

The throttle is better, the TC is infinitly better. I do wish there was a way to be able to toggle the rear locker on and off though. It is manatory on and you have to do the hokey-pokey by going to neutral to get into regular 4lo and you lose the cool screen and the better throttle/trans tune if you want to turn sharp.

Towards the end of the morning we came to a pretty substantial hillclimb with a nasty ledge at the top. Looked horrible from down below. Kid was almost in tears already about me using the skid plates and being concerned I was hurting "his" Bronco. The jeep people assured me I could get up it and if not they had winches up there to get me up. Nothing was really appealing... so Amanda went for a walk and found another trail that basically went around it and was super easy. So we went that way and had no drama or crying from the back seat.

Also this is the only shot from the outside with me in "Rock Crawl", however much smoother and more controlled it looks than the previous clips it felt 10 fold better from the cockpit.

Then we got to sit and watch the 2dr pull a wheelie getting over that ledge.

Then they invited us back to their campsite for lunch, it was a lot of fun hanging out with them and pushing my boundries.

"his" Bronco. It might be time to put him in the seat of the tractor and working the yard to make payments to you. lol

Along the north line fence of the park, the neighbors have a hunting ranch. Made for a pretty drive.

We left the jeep guys back at camp and looked for easier trails for Amanda to learn on.

Catered fried chicken, tater salad, baked beans and bread.

We struggled to focus on supper with all sorts of Jeeps going back and forth on the lane outside the pavilion.

I guess it is a thing for Jeeps to take their doors off before they go out on the trail so they have these racks by the gate that goes into the park. Side perk... watch for better doors than yours when you come out?

They also had an airup station there too with multiple hoses.

Getting lined up for the creepy crawl.

Did the creepy crawl as mentioned earlier, had fun. Little guy passed out at 8:43 which is unheard of.

Time to head home...

For kid entertainment she gave him her phone with it set to camera and just let him go. It was fun to watch.

Every grommet on the ground cloth for the tent has now been documented. It was fun to watch him do and then go back thru and see what he found interesting.

On our way out the gate:

Hit Fort Scott one more time. Free admission and they were closing when we were there Friday. Wanted to see a couple more things and decided to snag a National Park passport to stamp for future adventures.

New pizza oven idea for TRS events?

And that is about a wrap for the trip!

Great pictures. Thank you for sharing.

Hopefully we will get to do more adventures going forward. I’m officially no longer a county/government employee; my new job has a little bit more flexibility so I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Rocko.

Well my laptop hard drive went all A4LD on me and I lost my gopro footage. As a neat side effect I lost all my badlands gopro footage too.

:bawling:

That reminds me I have to learn how to do backups....

You might can still find them by using one of the file recovery programs, they actually do well.
I don't know what a new one would be called, I used one quite a bit years ago when helping people with their computers, but you might ask a current PC guru or something
