1/4 Mile Run Times - 1994 2.3 / Automatic

my mustang went 0-60 in 5.1 seconds on radials non drag style but it was a goood day for the track.
otherwise it takes about 5.4 seconds. and it runs 13.52 @ 104 as I drive it on the street

My '89 Delta 88 3.8 V6 would do 0-60 in about 8 seconds or so. Pretty quick for a granny car.

I checked my tire pressure today and I had about 15-20 pounds in each tire. This was probably a nice parasitic drag. Everything in the toolbox probably weighs about 100 pounds. The fullsize spare is getting replaced with a space saver next opportunity I get.

I'm starting to suspect this truck may have some Ignition issues. I've put 40,000 miles on this truck without touching the plugs, coil packs, or wires-the previous owner was an elderly lady who may or may not have bought the truck new. It pings under load sometimes (even on 93 octane), smells like rich fuel, and sometimes has a very slight stutter at idle. I currently have no codes or a CEL on, and as I stated before only had a pre-cat o2 sensor. I'm very aware that there is nothing to be gained on these trucks by 3-pronged spark plugs or painted coil packs.

I've also got a glovebox full of '92 Explorer 4.0 Fuel Injectors if there was anything to be gained by swapping them in.

i think the 4.0 injectors might be the same as the 2.3,not totally sure, but worth a try,air up youre tires, get some of that weight out of there, get the thing to run right ,i bet u can turn between 19.50--19.80,maybe 70--72 mph,try it.

I put 35-40 pounds of air in each tire. I don't think it needs the grip, haha. It cannot take a curve over 55 because of the Twin I-beams, and its so weak it can't spin the tires.

In the next two weeks or so I'm going to put new plugs, plug wires, and port the intake. I will try to post some pictures for those in the future who also want to attempt to port the manifold.

They are slow ass trucks. Use them for their purpose. If you want speed, buy a bike or higher end car.

Haha, I've got plenty of other projects. '54 F-100 roadster on a S-10 frame with a 327/700-R4, '73 Lincoln MKIV with a 460 and 70,000 granny miles, and a 1980 El Camino with a warmed up turd 350. All of them are quite powerful, but I just like tinkering on the Ranger to see what can be squeezed out of it, mostly to make my daily commuting less stressful on my right foot. I was always interested in the little 2.3's, and was glad to find such a clean truck with one in it. I just wish it was a 5-speed (Until I get in traffic)

Meeee!

Mostly just for reference when someone wants to get an idea of what their truck will run. There seems to be a lack of genuine 1/4 mile run results for these trucks, mostly because their so slow. Thus saving some poor individual from betting $20 on a race against a Ford Escort which would probably blow my truck out of the water.

I am enjoying the thread he ain't trying to hop up your truck up so let him be. man keep your negative opinions to yourself he is enjoying HIS truck.
keep posting away and have fun with YOUR truck.

I think I speak for the whole site when I say we would love to see pics of the f-100 project. I love the old trucks.

Last year sometime after I got it tagged and actually got to drive it on the street.

I have quite a few more pictures of the truck on my other computer.

okay, fair enough, I wont argue, but still not a bad time for a stock car =)

I like that, although I like those higher off the ground, still cool!

It's a pretty much stock ranger....... I'd just drive it, or if your hell bent to race, bracket racing is your only chance.

I goofed on the axle tag.

Looked at it today and its a 3.73 open 8.8! The truck is all stock except for a driverside door and fender (So much for the door tag). Also decoded my vin and it came back as a 1993, despite what all my paper work says, although thats probably from where it came here from Mississipi.

Has anyone else heard of a 2.3 Splash truck having an 8.8 axle in it?

if your 2.3 came stock with an 8.8 it was one in a million. you can check the axle code on the door tag to see what it came with stock. anything is possible, but i doubt it's the original rear end. BTW thanks for sharing. kinda cool to see a quarter mile time for these slow old dogs. haha. I was expecting something closer to a 22 second run though.
