Its my first time with a crawler and my first electric RC. I'm enjoying being able to use it indoors over pillows on the sofa.

It definitely needs those (extra cost!) brass rims. It feels even more unstable than my IRL Bronco II!

Depending on what it is and if the tires are glued or not you can get creative with wheel weight... some people wrap the stock wheels with plumbing solder, I had some on hand so I put an even amount of lead shot in all the tires, some people use airgun steel BB's... they're slow enough it doesn't really matter how balanced it is...

Many of the Crawler tires are used with Foam inserts to help simulate air pressure in the tires so loose weight in the tire does not help much.

There are many different ways to add weight but be sure that you start with unsprung weight as this adds the most stability and allows it to crawl better.

They have weighted rims, weighted inserts for rims, inserts that mount between the rim and axle/portals along with brass axles and diff covers to get you the unsprung weight. Just remember that anything you add to the chassis or body increases the sprung weight and will help it tip easier.

Glad to see you get interested in the R/C crawling scene. It's a fun pass time to have.


I have the 1/10 TRX-4 F-150 High trail and found with that, that unsprung weight really helped it crawl better. With all the unsprung weight I added, over 1lb., really made a difference in what it would go over. Right now my tires bulge at the bottom like when you air down 38's to 5lbs. or lower.

I have a set of alloy wheels for my SCX10 Ranger to add weight down low. Still trying to settle on a tire for them, really for crawling around the house the stock plastic wheels and Nitto MT tires work great.

I have brass weights that friction fit on the inside of the wheels and they made a huge difference. Brass knuckles and diff covers and stuff are a nice addition as well. Metal axles would be super nice..
