Does the cooling fan on a 2.3L 2002 Ranger run off of the belt and steel a bunch of horesepower? or is it electric?

I'm looking at getting a FlexALite electric fan, I know on the older models, the stock fan uses up horsepower, but what about the 02's?

Thanks

its belt driven.

if you'll kindly do a search on the e-fan subject, youll find its been covered a dozen different times in a dozen different manners.

what it boils down to is that cooling an engine is work. work can be measure in horsepower. it takes "X" amount of horsepower to do "X" amount of work, regardless of if that horsepower comes directly from the water pump pulley or from the electrical system. you will not gain any power or mileage with an e-fan swap.

the only advantage of an e-fan is the ability to turn it off for deep water crossings, thus keeping the fan from flinging water all over your engine bay.

90% of e-fans on the market are less powerful than your stock mechanical fan, meaning adding an e-fan is a downgrade for your cooling system. this may or may not become a problem depending on your trucks environment, a/c usage, ect.
