01 wont start

I had the same thing happen to me in my 1992 2.3 also a manual. Now I know they're way different vehicles but here's what happened to mine. My problem was the when the key is put into the ignition it moves a rod back and forth depending on the postion you want(you know forward for start and backwards for acessories) Well the box thing that the rod goes into, slides the contacts back and forth fell apart for lack of a better word. Somehow the metal tabs that keep the box closed worked themselves open causing really eratic behavior when I want to start my truck too. :temper: But it was a simple cheap fix. :icon_thumby:

Here's the picture of what I'm talking about.

hey is there a click, winding sound or nothing at all?

if there is a click, then you should check your batt. termnals, if there are fine then its your starter that has a bad contact on the commuacator

the winding sound, would be a bad starter silinoid not engauging

no sound, bad batt. connection, bad starter relay or clutch switch

Try checking your connections to see if they are loose or dirty before you spend the $ on a new switch. Anything below the dash is subject to a lot of dirt and moisture from wet boots, hunting dogs etc.

Its doesn't do anything no click, no whine, I turn the key and everything comes on it just won't turn over, its doing what it would normally do if I weren't pushing in the clutch, I'm just gunna make a jumper for it this weekend to eliminate it

After removing the connector from the clutch switch you will see contacts in the connector and each has a different color wire. If you are too tight$ to simply replace that switch, you can jumper WH/PK to PK and jumper GY/RD to LB/YE. Electrically, that is the same as you pressing the clutch pedal all the way to the floor (for starting).

You've already been warned there are hazards associated with doing this.

If you have cruise control, you will no longer HAVE cruise control with this switch disconnected and jumpered as described above for starting. To regain CC, jumper the RD/LG to TN/LB. Now, you will only be able to turn off your cruise with the steering wheel or brake pedal, another safety feature disabled.

You could also get an automatic transmission jumper that does this for you (installed instead of the clutch switch for trucks with auto trans) from the JY. While you're there, grab a clutch switch and fix it properly!

ok so i just sucked it up and went and bought a new clutch saftey switch and installed it, so we shall see if the problem returns! thanx for all the help guys oh and the cost was 37 bucks and some change and it took me 5mins to replace
