My brothers 01 edge (3.0, 4x4, auto) has the battery light turn on at about 3000 or so rpm when it down shifts.

Were thinking bad alternator, what do you guys think?

Cancel that, it happens whenver it reaches high rpm's. We had the alternator checked and put a different battery in it but niether was the problem.

I'd still suspect the alternator. Sometimes it takes a fairly high RPM to make worn out brushes bounce enough to make the light come on. Maybe they didn't test it at a high enough RPM?? I've had alternators test fine at idle but kick the light on when you rev the engine.

Thats what I'm thinking too. His alternator has a guarentee from dons auto but he lost his paperwork in a house fire so they are being difficult with honoring it.

I think we'll probably take my alt out of my Ranger and put it in his, just to see if that's the problem.

Well, since batteries don't cause battery lights, I'm not surprised that the battery didn't fix it.

If the light comes one at high RPM, I'd say that you have yourself a bad regulator. It's allowing too much voltage out. New alternator time.
