Build Thread - 1-ton Chevy Swap

Quads are financially and logistically easier to own and wheel.
Troof.
The amount of money someone puts into a vehicle is of their own discretion. I could buy an entire quad for the amount of money I've got into my front axle. That being said, you could buy an entire truck for the price some people have into the quad suspensions/etc.

I can haul a quad in the bed of my ranger. I cannot haul a truck in the bed of my ranger. Wheeling a truck requires an adequate tow rig, trailer, license/maintenance/insurance for each as well. If you drive your rig on the road, you've still gotta pay license and insurance, and maintenance skyrockets as it has to be able to safely travel at those speeds without worrying about catastrophic failure.

Quads are smaller, easier to store, easier to load, cheaper to maintain, already built for offroading, and all around easier to own. If you wanna go wheelin, you toss it in the bed of your truck and go. If you wanna wheel your truck, you hook the tow rig to the trailer, make sure all your tires are up to pressure, make sure the trailer still operates properly, trailer brakes still work, trailer lights still work, load the rig on the trailer, strap it all down, blah blah blah.

Trucks are a pain in the ass lol.
Wirsch, is that you? :icon_confused: :icon_rofl:

I still have the truck, although it's taken a back seat to the quad, and the tractors, and the gardens, and the house.....:shok:

Here's the new toy:

i like quads and all theyre handy for when you cant get a truck where you need it (awsome for moving trailers) but as for wheeling id take a truck over it any day.

you have the space you need for camping equiptment and another person. plus trucks are far more comfortable. but to each thier own.

quads destroyed my dirtbiking.

I'm not going to argue with you, but regardless of whether I am wheeling a truck or ATV, I have more than enough room for camping gear, so that's a moot point. In fact I've been working on streamlining my camping gear. I can nearly pack all of my necessary gear onto the racks of my ATV.

I'm down to one medium tote, one large tote, a clothes duffle, EZ-UP (if required), and a cooler. Other things are just luxuries/extras. I'll snap a pic next time I'm packing for a trip.

lol, I know man.

New rig looks good. :icon_thumby:

Thanks, I like it. Heck, it even matched the Chevy. :icon_thumby:

All that being said, I'm still following through buying Wirsch's trailer; mainly because I have the truck to haul on it, the truck to tow it, and other misc things to put on it and drag around. :icon_twisted:

Have to look into going to Attica one of these days John. I'll bring the 250R and I'll watch you in the mud.

JohnnyU,

How do you like the 500? Any complaints? Any recommendations?

I test drove a Sportsman 800 EFI 2 weeks ago and I fell in love with it. I've looked around online and I have never really heard anyone complain about Polaris.

Thanks!

Haven't really had it long enough to form a well-educated opinion, but so far I can't complain about it at all. I'm toying with the idea of a clutch kit, but I'd like to move the Chevy first.

Move the Chevy into your garage, cut all the fat off, then move it onto a trailer and lets go wheelin!

(no comments about my truck's status. I keel you!)

I'd rather move it to someone else's garage and they give me about $5,500 in $100 increments.

Speaking of..... is your truck done yet? :thefinger:

haha nice. Truck is coming along nicely. Engine is installed, wired up, rad. installed, ps lines connected, fuel lines connected, etc. Went to install the trans and I had the wrong flywheel. Just got that straightened out today. Should be here Weds. Hope to get the trans in and fire it up Friday night.

Right on, hopefully everything falls together and we can get out this summer!

Maybe I'll try to bring the big pig home from Josh's this weekend and see if I can't hide it in the garage. I really want to put up that second garage on my property, but just not sure I can justify it.

Hell man did you ever really go out and beat on the Chevy a little bit before deciding to give it the boot? I've seen a few pics a few pics of you having it out but nothing with any real action.
