My name is Glen n I got my first ranger about ayr ago.it's an 87 2wd 2.0.my wife has a 02 2.0 focus.I'm actually in the middle of pulling the engine out of my ranger n rebuilding it.as of now I'm gonna have it bored n replace the 2.0 carb head with a 2.3 carb head n hopefully a better cam n carb.i don't have much $ to spend but I would like to get more hp.if you guys have any ideas on cheap upgrades please let me know.ty

Welcome to the Station Glen! Start stripping it out and that will definately make your 1/4 Mile passes quicker lol. Any plans for building it up for street or offroad?

The first pic is what it looked like when I got it.the thing barely ran.i had to make sure it was in 2nd gear to get up even the smallest hills.after playing around with the timing n a good cleaning n thing it ran like a champ for it's age.the 2nd pic is what it looks like now.n the last one is my wifes focus.let me know what you think

Both good looking vehicles. How many miles on the clock of the ranger?

Ty n yes I would love to lower it n beef it up.I'm not into off roading.$ is kinda short/tight rite now for us just like alot of other people lol.

Well then start with an axle flip and drop spindles. Those are usually pretty easy ways to get some drop and with spindles you don't have to do an alignment. With drop springs you have to compensate with a bunch of alignment angles. Do I smell a V8 drop-in?

well I'm the 3rd person to own the ranger.the guy that I bought it from told me that it rolled over on him n it rolled over on me to.so 200,000 plus

Welcome to TRS! im lovin the look of that 87 man!

That's a lot of miles for a little 4-banger. Try and do a V6 swap. I think if you want a fast little truck, drop in either a 4L manual tranny or a 4L auto/manual. The 3L makes great power if it's a manual, but the 4L is a good engine all around. I still regret having the auto in my 3L. Wasn't really a choice though. I inherited the truck.

Yea I thot about that but also thinking about bagging it but idk lol.as far as a v8 i would like to but from what I've read I would need new trans bc I have a 5 speed n they say it's not strong enough plus alot of mod has to be done to rite? I've always been a vw guy n the biggest motor I've ever givin was a 2.5l lol ik it's sad lol

I thot about dropping in a 2.8 but like I said before don't have much $ n the ranger is my only means of transp when my wife is at work.so I have to get it back on the road asap :(

Just go and pull a junkyard Vortec V6 or a small Ford V6 like a 3L Vulcan or 4L.
