Life of my truck, Wheeling, Fun stuff!

Take whatever I can get with IFS

I know its been a while since youupdated, but just a thought. It looks like yoru still running the factory spring rates on your front springs. A softer spring rate would net you a little upward travel in your flex as far as wheeling and RTI. Our springs are way too stiff for flexing the front, I had the same problem with my truck. Your rear stuff looks good though.

of course they are factory rates......cause he doesn't have front springs but torsion bars....

like he said, he has what he has.....

unless he was to goto coilovers......:D

Thanks, bud, how is your truck doin?

Took it out once and broke the drive shaft:headbang: Then the slave started leaking and ruined my new clutch :icon_hornsup: Other than that good everything is up and running right now :icon_cheers:

Yeah i forgot about the tbars total brain fart, thanks.

if you wheel it, you might eventually outgrow the TTB, i outgrew the IFS the first real wheeling trip :icon_rofl: 79 F-150 D44 is sitting in the garage, just collecting parts, finding deals, and waiting on money, maybe after schools over in the spring i'll have the time and parts to do it!

i think you should sell the 44 and get a 60.

or get 60 c's/knuckles and a 35 spline 44 carrier and run 60 shafts.

or buy lots of 44 shit.

i am most impressed with a 18 year old and basic hand tools too btw.:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

Thanks, I am considering the dana 44 a learning experience and a stepping stone. And I want it to last a few years. I just ordered Yukon 5.13s, a master overhaul kit, dana/spicer ball-joints, and new rotors. A d44 will allow me to wheel and DD how I want but teach me how to wheel / work on / maintain / and build a solid axle'd vehicle. I don't believe I've experienced wheeling truly, as my rig is so in-capable. I want to experience every level of wheeling on my way up. I'm sure I will outgrow the half tons someday but for now, I just want a solid axle and the dana 44 is the most cost affective, realistic route for a DD/trail rig. The "shoulda went 60s" is something I hear enough. Just the other day, I was trailered 2 hours with some friends and their rigs and broke up the first hill, 5 minutes off the trailer due to a faulty reman cv-axle. That + no flex = I just want a solid axle really bad.

I need to get a rear drive shaft made up for it I got the stock one on for now just can't wheel it hard.

44 will serve you fine. Truck looks good BTW, you should start a build thread when you start you SAS.

that has to be the smartest statement I have ever read about wheeling......

I often see too many people on the trails in rigs that are much more capable than their skill-set will allow them....thus that leads them to do things they are not prepared for....

wheeling is alot like life....learn to crawl before ya walk, walk before ya run......you need to learn with the least capable vehicle then work your way up as your skills improve as well....

good luck with the SAS....and as said before....start a build thread....with lots of pics.....:icon_thumby:

:dunno:

hmm

I figured what I put you and your truck through at Turtle Ridge was more then probably half this site even get to witness. +1 for good spotting and you trusting your spotter.....even after he yells at you that you can do it when you say you can't :icon_rofl:.

I recall telling you take a certain line/obstacle and you just looking back with a face of doubt. And what did you do.........:icon_hornsup:

thanks man, I have a bunch of pics from my IFS lift but never put together a build thread so when I sas, I plan to take a bunch while building the axles and doing the SAS, and combine the two and make an official one.

I did do things I never thought I could do! Thanks for the great spotting and a kick in the ass. I can't wait to explore the possibilities of a solid-axle'd rig. :icon_hornsup:

well. the d44 has a place and your situation is that. i would rather live with a d35 ttb over swapping an eb typ d44 for certain. but starting with sla or a 2wd chassis.....totally different deal.

as far as i am concerned, if i bought a brand new ranger, it would get the sla garbage carefully removed and sold and a jk d44 axle would be pressed into service. dealing with the insurance salvage/brokers i inquired with...i would only have about 600-1200 into that jk swap after selling off the new oem ranger front axle/steering, depending on what springs i went with.

your realistic, and patiently impatient...:D
its a long ride...so take your time and enjoy it

Patiently impatient, lol, I think thats the perfect description! I will! I just picked up a 1354M and it came with a stock older ranger drive-shaft that should work with the dana 44 as long as the length is right. I'm kinda glad I'm going with a HP 44 rather than a LP EB D44 seeing Kyle M. strip the teeth off his new yukon 4.88s at Rocks & Valleys.
