Another good question, which size gas tank ya got?

I mean regardless of that your MPGs are bad. Check ur air filter, visually inspect all the connections, look under the truck and listen for any unusual noises.

I would also definitely hook it up to a computer for a diagnostic check.

If all that goes well I suggest a tune up, but a tune up could be done regardless, especially if you havent done one before...

Fuel tank should be the same as every other 98+ truck 19.5 gallons with a 3 gallon reserve. Or atleast mines that way fill it up to 16.5 off of the E.

What is the weather like where you are at? I noticed in certain conditions my truck got horendous mileage, like 22 degrees and sleet.

Well for some reason on E I can only get 15 gallons in my tank. Maybe he has a issue like mine.

You can't measure fuel economy in terms of miles per tank. Miles per gallon is the only fool proof way to determine what you're getting. Take the number of miles you drove, and divide it by the number of gallons you put in the tank. That will tell you what your actual mileage is. And extended cab rangers had 19 gallon tanks, but regular cab trucks had 16.5 gallon tanks.

I don't believe it will run properly with that much running rich unless that is cold short runs. Even when the ECT sensor is out of range and not telling the ECU the truck has warmed up the idle is terrible. You should be seeing black smoke out the tailpipe. If it is running that rich you'll contaminate your oil with fuel and shorten the life of the CAT. Something else is going on. You could have a shop test at the tailpipe for the A/F ratio with an CO tester.

I would start by pulling the spark plugs ... how do they look? This will help determine if it is running rich, lean, or just right and the problem is elsewere.

has this motor always run like this? any chance there was a rag stuffed into the intake so crap didn't get in there, and it made it's way down into the middle of the intake and is plugging things up? would create a condition similar to a REALLY dirty air filter...
