Drag Ranger Project

Heres some pics of my truck. Im hoping to have it done half a$$ by april 14th so i can race it at High School Challange at my local drag strip, then tear it back down paint everthing right and put a 4 link rear on it. But for now here it sits. The 302 has a 66 block, Heads were milled a little bit for hi-comp. Flattop pistons. Edelbrock Performer RPM cam .498/.520lift, Edelbrock Intake, Msd dist, & 6AL ignition. Headman headers and transdapt mounts. Once I have the 4 link i hope to run 12's. Mabey ill hit it with some nitrous someday. Ill update as i get more done, just got the truck not to long ago.

very nice project you got going man

oooooooooo shiny engine:drool:

what tranny you using? is it gonna look sick on the outside or are you going to build a sleeper? i am guessing if you want 12s, you wont be building a sleeper.

Looks good, there was a guy on the old forum who had a 351w in his gen 1 ranger. If i remember right he was running 12s w/o a 4-link.

man that is a real nice looking motor there keep the pic up looks like your going to have a nice ride maybe will get to race at this years meetin.

then he'd probably run 11s with a 4-link. Car craft did a test, I can't remember what car they were using but just installing a 4-link took .4 off the car's ETs.

I just got my fuel cell and some other parts today. I have a AOD tranny that will be running a trans-go shift kit & TCI rebuild kit along with a b&m Holeshot 3000 stall and a rachet shifter. I was going to go with a c4 as i have 2 at my house but they lack overdrive and 5 dollars a gallon for race gas isnt cheap. Its going to get some drag radials and some weld prostars but besides that it will look stock, painted flat black. Ill keep updated as I go... havent had much time to do much lately. For the 4-link ill be using the kit from Comp Engineering, and Coilovers from QA1. I think Ill be going with a ford 9 inch with a detroit locker, but im unsure... I didnt get around to finding a rear yet

Way to go so far on your project! It's nice to see someone as young as you doing such a great job. If it's going to be a street and strip truck, build a sleeper. They're a pile of fun. I used to really have fun playing with the "rice kids" when my truck was more of a sleeper.

Updates as of 3/4/08

Heres some new pictures as ive been working on my truck... I am using a new garage, it used to be where my boss's machine shop was but we moved to a new shop so i have this one untill the lease runs up. I dont have completely up to date pictures. As of right now the motor is in, rear is in the process of getting dropped for a LS3.73 8.8. The ignition is wired up, dash is back in and im fabbing up seat mounts for escort bucket seats. Im finishing up rebuilding my AOD and it should be in soon so i can fire it up. The entire truck is primered, and thats how im leaving it for now. I used trans-dapt motor mounts and they fit really well. The headman swap headers fit well so far, but untill i have the trans in i cant say for sure. High school challenge is coming up soon, april 27th... so im hoping that i can get it done by then.

very good looking project so far. bomber can paint jobs rock. hows the rust under the truck? not too bad i hope.

haha, your woman has her nose buried in her cell phone in 3 of those shots...i think she'd get along well with my girlfriend :icon_rofl:

Too bad you didn't leave all the original work truck paint on it. That would be one hell of a sleeper. Looking really good!

he shoulda left the construction supplies info on the side... maybe even a ladder rack on top :icon_rofl:

^that would be awesome. A ladder rack is definitely prime sleeper equipment.
