WooHoo, I finally was able to get wireless internet. It's only 256kb, but it's
LOTS better than dial up. Now i can update my webpage and check out your
vids.

Cool. I hope yours is more reliable than mine. I never had a problem with dial up. but now with Verizon DSL, it drops the connection all the time. I think the reliability is inversely proportional to the performance.

who is your new internet provider?

oibw.net It's the same company i was getting my dial up from.
I am only about .6 of a mile from the tower so my connection should'nt have too much
interference. They give me a temp. dial up account in case it does go out for some reason.

ahhh, slow internet can be so frustrating. glad to hear of your upgrade.

speaking of wireless, we recently upgraded ours as of monday. we got a new card with an external antenna (its actually a mag-base for use in a car or truck). what an improvement over that card with the useless built-in antenna. if you have any troubles with range highly recommend an external antenna, its night and day. we went from an unreliable connection of barely 1MBPS that would disconnect depending on weather and god knows what else....to a solid 11MBPS.

one interesting thing though...when we run the microwave, the computer looses its connection :dunno:

sounds like you need a new microwave. it is leaking.

Thank you, amazing kreskin....

You have no way of knowing for sure whether or not it's his microwave, a 2.4Ghz cordless phone, any o a variety of items also using the unrestricted band, or even another WAP nearby.

As he stated when he runs the microwave it knocks off the internet. Going by the info given. A leaking Micowave will also knock out a direct tv signal.

I see it now.....my mistake.

Funny second use for a WAP.....detecting if your microwave is killing you LOL

Man I remember how frustrating it was a few years ago when I still had dial up, it was bad to the point were I never used the computer cus I would get so pissed off. Then we made the switch to Verizon DSL, it was great, once in awhile the connection would go out but it wasnt for that long, now Ive had Verizon FIOS for about about a month, its a little faster but other then that itd got nothing over DSL.

I remember when I went from dial-up to high speed.

I thought it couldn't get much better.. Then a few months later I had to upgrade to a higher speed!

I'm so glad I don't have dial-up anymore. Test your download & upload speeds here. Click on the pic
