Just Plain Stupied

nice pics on the gear install DG......haha, i did the same thing to get my carrier bearings off too, dremel worked great. you need to get one of those POS electric impact guns. for being so cheap, they work great. took my pinion nut and ring gear nuts right off...tell me about it--I crawled under the truck & put an 18" breaker bar on the pinion nut/grabbed the frame with both hands/put both foots on the bar and pushed like I was giving birth (I'll be getting a impact this "weak (back) !!!!...they work great for using pullers too.

the lipstick was a good idea too
yep...if my wife ever sees those pics !!!!!!!!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahhahahhhahaaaa:icon_bounceblue:

I said to myself....Self---what do you do wrong???

I would like to say that I'm intelligent and quick-witted.....but it's the V.A. drugs.....so I'll have to settle for unintelligible & half-witted.....

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaahhhhahahhaaa....old man cough..........waaaaaaaaaaaaahhahahhahaahahahhaaaa.....weeze......

Right now I'm finishing up tucking away the wiring under the dash.....I still have to rig up a working CHOKE KNOB to connect a rod to the column ignition switch.......(WHAT did he say??????????????)

OK, I didn't want to read the last 2858 posts so........................I hear your building a truck. Summarize a bit, what color and did you have plans or just follow the voices? OK, I really don't want a summary. I'm just avoiding studying for the new plane.

It's been a while since I checked your thread. Your gear install with pics was a great read. Thanks for the inspiration,

Richard

Na, I wish I could buy one for myself. I'm not sure what's more expensive, the plane or the insurance?

The plane is owned by the new company that I work for. Training is several months. I started training at the beginning of January and I won't be done until the end of March.

HEY DG. looks good my friend. nice job.

i finally cleared enough snow to get my truck out. check out the stupi(e)d build when you get a chance.

keep up the good work.

Well......I think I finally got the Holley 4-bbl to work with the key-chain remote start........:yahoo:

I was in the house putting my boots on....as I reached down to pull up my left boot......the Ranger started outside.....:icon_surprised:

I'm guessing the truck key pressed against the remote start button on the keychain in my pocket whilst I was bent down yankin on the boot.......;missingteeth;

I like the gear post too great job. I see jason got to ya he was asking me about doing a gear change, and how difficullt it was so I sent him your link to show him, I told him you should be able to answer any questions he might have. LOL

It's too funny about the remote start having your keys start it for ya, I've done that in the garage. I had the garage remote in my pocket and I've bent over to pick something up and the door will start to close and scare the crap out of me.:icon_rofl:

back at cha'..................................... ;missingteeth;

back to the go-rajjjj.....I jetted the 4-bbl down too much...........gotta go drill the jets back to the original size (whatever that was) & put a lower # power valve in the carb............waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhahahahhhahahahhahaaaaa

STUPIED......I discovered that I had the accelerator pump arm preloaded (should have 1/32" clearance)...it was causing the engine to draw gas straight outta the pump, load up and die at idle....the carb is coool now after setting the pump-arm clearance......

TAKING THE PLAY OUT OF THE RADIUS ARM RUBBER BUSHINGS.........

Also..I cheated & didn't cut the rivets out of the frame brackets to work on the radius arm bushings.....the rubber bushings were loose from drying out---causing a little shimmy when hitting potholes--you can see the gap/slack at the tip of the screwdriver.....

100_3744.jpg

The hardware is removed......

100_3745.jpg

I made a spacer (by drilling out the OEM washer to 1" I.D.) to slide over the .875" diameter shaft that the rubber bushings slide over....(the OEM washer had a .500" hole which caused it to hit against the shoulder of the arm-shaft---which is how it was designed to compress NEW bushings--which I didn't have at the moment)

100_3746.jpg

Everything is re-assembled...the modified washer allowed me to scew the nut on farther removing ALL the slack from the rubber bushings....notice the extra threads from being able to tighten the front/rear rubber bushings....this repair also corrected the exta rake at the front wheels by drawing the axles rearward when the slack was removed......

100_3751.jpg

this allowed me to take all the slack out of the radius arms by tightening up a lot more on the retaining nut that holds the arm to the frame bracket.....took about an hour to do both sides...no more big gap between the steel cup & the shoulder on the radius arm...no more banging or shimmy on ruff roads....rides like new!!!

I was just thinkin...(this oughta be good!!!).....

What could be better than going on a road trip?

OOOOOOOOOO.....OOOOOOOOOOOOO....I know!

Rig up a remote controlled winch to fit in the bed of the truck up there by the cab....

then put the motorcyle ramp in place..................................................

and yank that 600 lb. Harley into the bed backwards!

Plus.......No winch needed to get it out of the bed... it's easier to see forwards than backwards when going down a 30* incline......:icon_bounceblue:

Why........I think I'm gonna do-it.......pics of course..........:icon_bounceblue:

OF COURSE....I'LL KEEP ALL THE PICS IN THIS POST TO KEEP THINGS ORGANIZED..........

I knowed I had a pic of the bike somewhere....not very good, but it'll do for now....

There the hoist be....holding up the VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV-8........
