ahhh good point...

what about those deals you see in the old videos, storming the beaches of normandy?

the amphibs were launched from landing craft just a little way off shore....and even then,a large number of them ended up on the bottom.

Yes but with the way we knows u are it'd end up with sand rail padle tires and a jet engine. Btw I tried your idea with the cardboard box and the heater to make my fan shroud it worked awsome! Thanks

glad it worked for you....i find it handy when i need to keep something like that warm to set it up.a big tv or fridge box is handy to keep on hand.

Yea dad is a Matco dealer so we have a bunch of big boxes from the tool boxes. It's handy yet the reason I can't use the garage for truck stuff anymore

If you put wings on the car you could probably fly to the mainland. I wouldn't want to go very far in one of those ducks, they don't feel very seaworthy once you get a few hundred feet off-shore, at least that was my impression, or perhaps it was just me.

i think that was probably the impression of lots of g.i.s,especially those that ended up swimming after their ride turned submarine.

how did you come to experience one?

Beech Bend park in KY used to have a couple.
We used to go every summer when I was a kid to watch the Drag Races, got to the park and ride the Ducks down the river.
The driver would gun it down the boat ramp and hit the water, pretty cool ride.

that would be a hoot....there's a similar ride in quebec city, while i haven't been on it,i have friends that have.

still wouldn't take one in the open ocean, though:D

ahhh, i was wondering where the hell they came from... couldn't see all those small crafts chartering the entire atlantic on their own...

hey, how did that movie work out for you, were you able to make it work?

There were a bunch of them left over after ww2, so many of the seaside resorts had them running up and down the beaches and for a few shillings they would take you for a ride down the beach and through the surf until you were a few hundred feet off shore. It didn't feel very safe but they were a very popular attraction. There were still a few around doing the same thing when I left England in the early seventies. The last time I was at an English resort was a couple of years ago and there were still a few running up and down the beaches but they did not venture into the water (probably too many rust holes by now)

i completely forgot about the movie...too much other stuff going on,i'll probably wait till it comes out on video.

ah,i can see that.i imagine there would have been a huge amount of surplus war equipment left in england after the big tiff.

they still have signs up around the coast warning you not to play with mines if you find one washed up on shore.

there was one that washed up here in the '80s,the guy that found it didn't know what it was and used a hacksaw to cut off the prongs so it would be easier to roll up the beach.it's a miracle it didn't blow up.once it came to the attention of the military folks here they took over the job of disposal.

the thing was at least 5' in diameter.i should see if i can get a hold of the photos.

Ah! them big round ones. there used to be a lot of them around. they used to dis-arm them and convert them to money boxes for financing the lifeboat service.

I've also ridden in a duck boat. Actually, they even let me drive/pilot it for a bit. It was in Boston in 2001 or 2004. So, they've at least had them operational recently there.

Gwaii, I think just because crossing the Strait is difficult is all the more reason for you to create another masterpiece to conquer the waters. But, this project will have to wait until after you rebuild your Ranger, I think more people are waiting for that then a jet powered super duck boat.

2001 or 2004

fair warning, this is not a personal attack, I'm just seeing something ironic and making a joke about it.

How many illegal drugs do you have to do to have a memory glitch of 3 f-ing years? I mean every now and again my memory will get fuzzy and I'll confuse 5-10 minutes, a week or a month, depending how long ago something is. But to have 3 years of confusion? the only way that works out is if you were Danny Bonnaduce in the 80's.

Easy, I was in Boston both in 2001 and 2004. Those are the only two times I've ever been there.
