OK, any of you that have replaced the broken flex plate issue that plagues the B2 and Rangers...what have you done to help or prevent this from happening again? (modifacations other than swapping out engine/trans. Mine was on the '85 2.8 v6, and the A4LD 4x4). I REALLY do not want to have to do this again anytime soon, and would love to swap in the V8 and better Trans, but currently it is my daughter's vehicle, and thae last thing she needs is a V8! Thanks

I was talking to my friend who owns a trans shop about the complaints I've seen lately on here about broken flex plates. He said when he sees it being a repetitious thing it's because there are alignment pins missing or the spacer needs replacing. There is also an upgraded spacer for the flexplate that he suggests changing to, I think made by Sonnax and I believe he said it's billet steel. You may also want to check your crank for play.

Oh, and he also said he ALWAYS buys new flex plates from dealers now because the aftermarket units have a much higher fail rate.
