Why is it that people hate bands like Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship, Paramore, etc.

I mean, the music is... well to each their own, but there are guys who actively hate those groups.

Now, Patrick Stump has more vocal talent in his index finger than most of those people have in their entire bodies, so i tend to wonder.

Is it just the have-nots hating the haves? is it that they were raised with a different type of music so they feel obligated to hate everything that's different?

I mean, i love AC/DC, Aerosmith, Crue, etc, just as much as the next guy, but i don't get why people actively hate 'new' artists.

anybody got any wisdom to share?

I used to hate country music just because everyone else did. Then I went through puberty and started thinking for myself. Most of it is groupthink.

It seems to me that the people that hate the "new" stuff, usually dislike it because it is so much different than the music they grew up with. Or they think it takes no skill/talent to create the newest generation of music, which is a complaint I hear rather alot.

I kinda like FOB, never heard Cobra Starship, but I do hate Paramore. I'll give you my reason. IMO mainstream music publications/television have tried for at least 2-3 years to force Paramore down the publics throat. Sure they have some talent, but there are so many other bands out there that make as good or better music but don't have as attractive people in their bands. Modern music is more about visual appeal than good sound music composition and performance (again IMO).

i don't hate bands. but literally each and every one that you listed will make me get up off my ass, walk across the room and turn off the radio if they come on.

since you seem to know who "patrick stump" is
i also "tend to wonder" if you have a crush on whichever band it is he sings for

i agree hate is a strong word. but on the flip side after i "went through puberty" quit caring enough about any one band to get to know the names of the members, much like whether or not other people like a band i like doesn't even register on my radar. now i enjoy listening to music. getting to know the members is irrelevant to that

knowing his name is incidental.

i have no particular affiliation or attraction to any given group, i enjoy individual songs based on their own lyrical and musical merit, not who sings them.

besides, if I'd said 'steven tyler' instead of 'patrick stump' you wouldn't have questioned me at all ;)

i enjoy individual songs based on their own lyrical and musical merit

that's where you are going wrong, you assume that the rest of the world "enjoys individual songs" for the same reason....they don't you are giving the citizens of this planet too much credit. they listen to music, not analyze it for its "lyrical and musical merit" perhaps if they did they would reach the same conclusions you have

since lyrics and music are what make up a song, that would be like saying
"i enjoy individual meals based on what is used to make them....not how they taste"

you're missing the meat of what i am saying.

I enjoy a song for that song, how it sounds, what it's saying.

I don't enjoy a song just because of who is singing it.

you over-analyzed what i was trying to say.

a more accurate version of your metaphor would be "i enjoy this dish because of how it tastes, not because it has black angus in it."

I hate new music because all it is about is slappin' bitches and pimpin' hoes... and you can't tell a damn word of what they're saying.

People love to hate.... Look at the people who go out there and hold up signs saying God hates fags, etc. Arrogant enough with their hatred to tell you that god hates you for something you cant change. I think god can speak for himself.
So basically, people are crazy, thats my answer.

Not gunna lie, lead singer of fall out boy can sing, yet i wouldnt be caught dead listening to em.
T-pain is another good example. That guy can ACTUALLY sing really well, but you wouldnt guess that because he masks it behind an auto tuner, because its popular i guess.
Lil wayne on the other hand, you cant autotune that whiney ass voice enough. His voice sounds like someone trying to take a diahrea shit through a kazoo.

I like individual songs more than groups. It seems nobody can make an album I can listen to all the way thru without skipping a song or three here and there. Pretty much I surf station logs and listen to new songs that I haven't heard before. If I like, I buy.

I have one FOB song that I know if, never heard of any of the other groups.

I grew up on country and still like the country from that period (90's) but I really don't care at all for modern country. I would rather listen to the mud tires whine on pavemet.

I'm in the same camp here. Except I haven't heard FOB either, that I know of.

My reason for hating Paramore, and bear in mind that this is purely and admittedly an opinion, but in my OPINION, their music sucks salty monkey balls.

I feel the same way about Sugarland, all rap (R&B and club music get lumped in there) with very few exceptions that I will not take time to list, and an assortment of others.
