My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

I think if they can put a 429 in the Ranger you could fit a V10... I think they are roughly the same dimensions... but why would you EVER want to put that crap in there?

There are harmonic issues since it's got a V8 crank timing with 2 extra throws added to the back... Not great when you're looking for horsepower.

It's similar to the 4.3 V6 chevy has, basically the 350 with the back two cylinders cut off... oh, and the 3.6 V6 ford made... based off of the 302 but I think they reset the crank timing (I seriously could be calling that something it's not....).

I'd never want to.. I like MPGs too well and I don't see getting very good miles with a V10 whether it's a good engine or it sucks ass I think one thing for sure it would suck a lot of gas...... The V10 in the mustang was a "concept" engine so it wasn't the same one in the trucks...

my buddy has a built 429 hes just about ready to throw in his fullwidth ranger.. so yeah it can fit lol

Just spent my Sunday afternoon and evening reading through/looking through this entire thread. Good stuff here multi. Nice job and an excellent example of a clean street ranger. I think I read earlier, but now its time for a M50D so you can have the Hurst shifter. Regardless, awesome truck. :icon_thumby:

yeah... I vote that M create a new thread with all the photos and some comments in regards to them so we can more easily oogle his handy/skilled-labor/work.

Thank you Sir! She has a M50D.. I'd love the hurst shifter but refuse to pay the price for one.IMO way to much cash for what it is. I found a Hurst equipped emblem from 60s Shelby that would be awesome if I did Have the Hurst shifter though... Once it gets warmer I am going to do more to the truck to get it more Shelbyized... :stirthepot:

The 429. Is it from a Mustang or from a F800?

not from a mustang i know that for sure, i believe it was an old 4 door car not sure what it was. hes a member on here but i dunno if he has any posts or not, search t120r thats his username, send him a pm he will be more than happy give you every little detail, he lives and breathes it lol

I forgot they used it in stuff other than the Mustang way back when..
Seems like there are 3 or 4 versions of it now that we are talking about it... The latest was used only in an F800 that I know of.
I seen one that had a 429 4V emblem in the grill... I'll tell you what there was something about seeing 429 4V in that grill that made all in the world seem right...

setting a turbo up to be reliable is easy dude. keep the boost to a safe level, and make sure the timing and fuel is where it needs to be, and make sure you have a proper size intercooler, and youll have no problem at all. ive daily driven 2 turbo cars, and got well over 30 mpg.

and thanks multi, its nothing too special ya know. but im honored. you def. have my vote as favorite 2ND gen.

bad thing is timing and fuel is where I would lack the experience to make it run right with a turbo... I didn't think you could adjust the timing anymore like you could with a distributor.... I want to turbo it but I just don't think I could do it myself...

if i could understand it, then you can too. trust me.

I would think the ECM would adjust AIR /Fuel/timing by the info it receives from the O2 and MAF heck maybe even a tad of info from the TPS...
I understand more air = the need for more fuel and I would think the compression change from forced air would mean a need for the timing to be retarded but :dunno: for sure.. I have read a lot on it but most what I read are about built 4.0s I wanna stay stock unless it bolts on the engine not in it...

Guess I got confused when you and Silver were talking transmission earlier in the thread and assumed you had the Mitsubishi FM132 transmission. I paid for the Hurst a few years ago when I had to swap out my blown transmission for a newer one, but needed a different shift linkage (the older M50D's use a longer gear select rod and the newer ones use a shorter gear select rod) and Ford wanted too much money for one so I bought the Hurst which comes with an adapter plate that allows it to work with any year M50D. The Hurst really makes the truck that much more fun to drive. I love mine, but I understand that they aren't the cheapest item out there. However, I think Carroll Shelby would have used a Hurst shifter... :icon_thumby:

It's always had a M5OD....Yep he would have for sure used a Hurst shifter.. If I can find one used for cheap I'd get it in a second... not sure if I mentioned it anywhere but I did modify the shifter by making is shorter and added a B&M T handle... It seems like a shorter throw but it prolly isn't...
