My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

i don't know if anyone has mentioned this, as i kinda skipped about 107 pages of this thread, but ford DID put a 5L in a ranger... looked quite a bit like the way you did your truck up actually... though there are some definite differences of art in the two

i can't find the url right now, but there was a prototype that ford made in the mid to late 80's it was white, ground effects, and i seem to remember it having a roll bar deal in the bed... it was a 5L mustang motor, with the t5 transmission from a mustang, i don't remember what the rear diff was, but probably a 3.73 trac loc... i seem to remember it having red interior also, very tame... only one ever made

your truck is coming along very nicely though!

If I remember right, the 5.0 was a red second gen with an explorer grille and the white one had the SHO motor.

I'll see if I can find the articles, I know they're around here somewhere.

you MIGHT be right, but i thought it was white with red pinstriping, the article i read was written in a car and driver type magazine, and the test was outside of the dearborn plant i think... but even though they DID put a 5L in A ranger, it doesn't technically count as it was ONE prototype...

i seem to remember a picture very similar to this one, along with the article i read... and i also seem to remember the article hosted on one of TRS's pages (non forum)

hmm...maybe they made two? Either way I wasn't able to find the articles to support my fuzzy memory. Hopefully someone who doesn't suck at searching can chime in, lol.

i was thinking the same thing... though when i took a look at the non tech acticles, there was mention of the sho motor prototype that ford let magazines play with, so maybe i saw t5 there and added 5L with it... i don't know... someone will pipe up i'm sure... then i'll look like an idiot (again)

lol nice buddy!

In my book if it isn't available at the dealer it never happened... Some of you may or may not know that Ford put a V10 in a Mustang.. Only 1 was ever made... So it doesn't suprise me they put a 5.0 in a Ranger...

Did you know they also put v10 engines in their econoline vans? They really did. But its not common knowledge so shhh

Reading the spec sheets for most work vans, they start to sound like muscle cars,

I'v seen quite a few vans with the V10 emblem... Wonder what it would take to wedge one in a Ranger? I'v seen a 70s Challenger with a Dodge truck V10 in a magazine back several years ago....

Yep. There's tons of the v10 vans.

Which is what makes my joke, a joke.

fair enough i can agree with that logic, i did NOT know they put a v10 in a mustang... you got sauce for that fact?

lol yes apparently they are crap too... did you know they made econoline dualies?

wait, 9 inch... they say that like they are making a 9 inch to put into new vehicles... :D

Why did a handful of rogue engineers at Ford Powertrain build these V-10 engines? Simple: They're car freaks, just like us. "You could call it an unfunded research project," offers one of the covert operators, "which can get expensive when you're on your third T56 manual trans, fifth clutch, second nine-inch rear axle, and third set of rear tires."

t56's are not cheap either... i wanted one for my mustang so bad, so much coin...
