put the ranger in the ditch last night

nice dickheaded way to say it. Its knoxville tennessee. We dont get much snow and when we do its enough to be mashed into a sheet of ice. You may be right, but hell, dont kick us in the nutz when you say it.

well, if you'd like i could pussyfoot around the subject, but that doesn't change the end result: he did everything wrong.

that's not to say he can't get better, but right now, he shouldn't be driving in those conditions.

what is the correct way to slide down a hill?

tire chains.....his overall was stay put till road is passable.

i been driving and racing on ice my entire life.

in mi and wisconsin/ohio.

parts of tenn west by gawd virginia and kentucky....i would not drive in certain conditions as its impossible with the terrain of those areas...even with chains in certain conditions.

i dont know what your conditions were so i cant say...all i can say is with a few years of dealing with it it would be easier to judge when to hold them and when to fold them and when to chain up or air down.

was at work and couldnt stay put.

In a 2wd not much you can do unless other than chains and a bunch of weight in the back. Having come from a cold hilly climate I would have to say that when you get snow in the warmer climates it's the worst kind for driving since it is barely cold enough to snow and the roads aren't sanded. Also once the temp drops to 0 and below the snow isn't nearly as slick so I'm not sure it is as much about superior driving skills as it is using discretion in the first place. It sure is fun though until you get stuck or worse.

invest in tire chains, or a set of metal studded tires.

Tire chains definitely. take a look at your state and local laws on studded tires tho. they are illegal in many places unless you are a postal worker (Illinois has this as a law...) If studded tires are legal, get a set. I would get 4 of them so you can steer as well.

Walmart does sell cables here, but the snow we got that he was originally talking about caught us off guard that day, even the news crews were surprised, they were planning for some but it was 4 days down the road, and then we got a quick one day blast that created alot of ice.

Me personally I been out of a job for a month and half, and normally have good tires, but this was a horrible month and until I get paid getting anything from walmart is off the table, LOL.

driving on ice is not easy. i live in alaska and it rained in late november here creating an ice ring on the roads and i locked up several times, and im on 33inch MTR's, but i just let off the brake and it corrected itself.
