building a quad trailer for a guy,he wants to put three quads across the deck,side by side.

he's got a car dolly for the axle,but it's 78'' between the wheels and i want the deck a little wider so the quads won't be hanging over the edge.that's why the square kick-in is in the middle(these are the side rails)

i've also found that when walking around trailers like this i have a tendency to bump into the corners with my knees,so i like to miter them to a short 45*,just enough that it isn't sticking out so far.

although i used my little mig to tack the pieces together i'm doing all my finish welding with stick,using 7018 1/8'' rod.this is a good high strength rod with good penetration,and is cheap to weld with and easier than dragging the wirefeed around.

the frame is 2x4x1/8'' hss,and will have 1 1/2 x3 x1/8'' hss crossmembers ,as well as a 1 1/2x1 1/2 x1/8'' angle iron ledge to hold a 3/4'' plywood deck flush with the top of the steel.

i'll post more as it progresses.

excellent work GWAII, if you didn't have that welder in your hand I'd start to worry that something serious happened.{ i bet you suffer from withdraws when there's nothing to do?}

there's always something to do......i've got projects lined up to fill the next 5 years,and by then there'll be plenty more:icon_thumby:

(mind you,when i travel-which i don't do much-i get a bit antsy)

i spent all day today welding on a trailer....our work dump trailer took a hard hit and messed up the doors pretty bad.

after alot of cutting and welding finally managed to get things back into shape, some of the welds on this thing are down right scary from the manufacturer

I'm working on a new set of work benches for the garage....the wooden ones in there are falling apart. I'm in the planning stages now and probably won't get them built for another month or two but they will be sturdy...and heavy! :icon_welder:

1.5" .125" square tube frame, 3/8" plate top. 6' wide, 30" deep. Going to build three of them to make 18' across the garage. With the tool box and a cabinet, it will fill the wall across the garage.

well, i had 3 components to my front core support setup i made when i swapped the diesel in a few years back that i decided to install this morning...so it wasnt sitting on wood 2x6's any more:shok:....years....:annoyed:

and well....they are all hacked up now as i had a different brilliant idea after looking at the situation...that didnt work out so well and i been sitting here waiting for inspiriation to continue the changes the last few hours looking at the pc and launching lil bobs mechanical duck from where i am sitting so he can shoot it down...

looking like wood is still going to be in at this point:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

look below where the headlight and grill meets....thats a 2x6.....works great as it protects the radiator too...and is what caused todays dillemma...i had planned to incorporate a new summit radiator before the support componants went in....and one thing leads to another....and it all has to work together....

fuggin idiot....

maybe i can get the bed extension on and finish the tailgate....some side panels for the bedsides too if i get ambitious.
