Sloppy shifting

Just bought a 1994 4x4 ranger 5spd. Is there a way to tighten up the shifter?? It is very sloppy and i dont want to strip anything out. It still shifts into every gear with no problem. It is just very sloppy and if your not paying attention sometime you hit the wrong gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if its a m50d like in the newer rangers get the hurst shifter from summit!
I got one and i love it to death, i also bought the wire brushes T-grip and polished it to a chrome finish!

I also own a Hurst shifter and think it's great but the O.P. seemed to want to fix the shifter he already has, that's why the link to the article and not a suggestion for a highdollar part.
