My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

8.8 is 8.8. I could run these in my mustang, ranger, explorer....they should work just fine for you. I believe the carriers are all the same.
by current rearend I meant 7.5..... The 8.8 has the sheared bolt in the crosspin...

When I got my rear brakes done I also got my wheel seals done. Gerry noticed the crosspin was snapped and managed to drill a tiny hole in it and take it out with an easy out. It still may be down at work. Basically all but the bottom-most threads had snapped of. It was literally just the pin and one thread holding the whole thing together.

That is exactly what it seems like mine did...I'd love to know why the hell does Ford use bolts that break like that????

Crosspin bolts are a common failure point in most rear diffs. I recommend people replace them anyways when doing wheel seals. Chevy just had a recall recently due to a related reason. I'll see if it is still at work and I'll take a couple pictures for you.

I'll take all the info/advise you have or can get!!

OK so multi I should have rephrased myself. I know we are talking about the same part but I've been referring to it as the crosspin itself when in reality it is the crosspin bolt. Either way I brought mine home to try and put some pictures to what I was talking about but unfortunately I can't find my camera. Basically Gerry managed to drill a tiny hole in it and back it out with an easy-out.

Good luck with the crosspin bolt multi! The matching tach looks good:icon_thumby:

Any updates multi?

Sorry to ask... what crosspin bolt?! I never saw one of these when I took mine apart... :dunno:

The bolt that holds the cross-pin in. I've done 10+ 7.5s and 8.8s and never broke one :dunno: I heat the carrier a little with a propane torch before trying to remove it.

They are easy to not break but when they do they are a mojr pain in the ass. It's just something simple to replace as they are under some stress.
