anyone making plans for "The End"?

i laugh at the mayan "end of the world" theory , what it is based off of is the Mayan Long Count Calender , they are on the 13th b'ak'tun , which is the 13th cycle of their calender , the end of this cycle is said to fall on 12/21/12 , yet the Mayans never made any predictions about the end of the world , for them it would be a time of great celebration because making it through a complete cycle is a big deal , where people get this end of the world theory is that at the beginning of the 13rh b'ak'tun is when our world as supposedly 'created' , this date falls on 8/11/3114 BCE , there were 12 other b'ak'tuns before this date that were completed , but according to Mayan legend the world was created and destroyed 3 times until our world , the 'perfect' world that man could live on was created , and what puts the end of the world theory to bed is that the Mayans also had events that they 'foresaw' such as eclipses and such that they date well beyond the end of the long count.

as for Doorgunner's interpretation , DG , i ain't got anything against ya , you have been through a great deal more then me in your lifetime so i greatly respect your opinion and your unshakeable belief , i will state nw that i believe in God and Jesus , but my problems lie with the Bible , i take it as more of a storybook guidline than as literal truth , the Bible was written by man , has been changed by man , and has multiple versions , to say that only one modern version is the correct version is just preposterious , so as much as i respect you DG , i think you are reading a little too far into it

as for myself on that date , i will be sittin at the bar havin a couple drinks with my fellow firefighters

Before you prepare for the so called "end of the world" you people need to prepare for the "End of America".

It WILL be an economic end, if you have an open mind in economic news you can clearly see this.

You got that right, thanks to all the liberal big spenders over the years, and the current big spender himself... "lets keep the tax cuts" and add a trillion dollars of new spending... later on they'll say the tax cuts caused a big balloon in the deficit. They will NEVER get it. We are doomed. It is part of the big plan. 12/12/12? I think the Bible says no one knows the day or hour. I tend to believe that. So if any of you decide you won't need your RBV after that date, sell it to me cheap, or just give it to me. You won't be needing it anyway LOL.

I will just conitune living. And if something really does happen, I will deal with it as it happens. I've already got a stock pile of ammo for the zombies or theives in the post apcolypse.

yah, i already got a surplus of 12gauge shells and machetes up at the ol camp.

zombie apocolypse FTMFW!!

yee haw brother, bring on the zompocolypse! ill be on the roof of my ranger (or b2 or whatever i have then) just waiting for the meteor to come towards me so i can shoot it away back into space.

ill probably just be on here, with jhammel. that or in the shop fabbing something up with a couple buddys and my good friend who helps me through rough and happy times, mr. Captain Morgan

Here is my plan for the end of the world.

Step 1. Die.

thats pretty much the only thing you have to do. 100% fool proof. so easy a caveman can do it. (they did do it too, worked great.)

i dont beleive that it will end on that day. if you look at it statistically then its really unlikely ive seen estimates that the earth has existed for anywhere between 50 and 500 billion years and id say that it will probably keep going for atleast that long. how long the human species last is another story, but id say we will survive quite a while. if you guys want some good survival info go to www.gunandgame.com and check out the survival section

My opinion on the topic?

I think along the lines of OilPatch197, with the end of America being more of a possibility than the end of the world itself. However, I think that with a certain amout of unrest, among many countries, across many continents, it could easily be considered the end of the world as we know it... Basically the world will still exist, but many of it's people will be killed in rioting, looting, and fighting, or will just die off because they couldn't fend for themselves.

I'd say the 5 key things to survival in an age of world wide unrest would be as follows. And the're pretty much common sense.

1. Getting far away from any big city. People in cities will deal with rioting/looting and mass gridlock. Most city people rely on stores and electricity for everything. Things that won't exist when things get bad.

2. Knowing how to hunt, fish, and grow food. Stores won't exist...simple as that.

3. Knowing how to live off the land (besides food). That includes anything from building shelters to cutting firewood.

4. Being able to move and setup camp at most any location within a short amount of time, will be an advantage should you have to vacate your current location. You're an easy target hiding in a house... That also means being able to survive and make camp with only what you can carry/transport on foot. Vehicles attract unwanted attention, if you can even find gas for them and keep them maintained.

5. Last but not least, and it seems everyone has this one on their list... GUNS AND AMMO. A gun is an equalizer. Without it you are nothing. You're as dead as the poor anti gun liberal bastard stuck in the big city in his apartment trying to drive his prius through the rioting and gridlock. You can have all the supplies, make all the preparations, and have everything ready...right up until someone takes your life because you didn't have a way to defend youself. Having enough weapons, ammo, and related supplies to support a small group is almost a necessity.

It may all sound crazy, but if something were to happen....it sure wouldn't sound so crazy anymore.

Hopefully nothing will happen in 2012...but it's not impossible to think bad things could happen. When things do go bad, it's fast, and it snowballs. I honestly don't think anything catastrophic will really happen, unless some lunatic believes in the 2012 theory and has his finger on the nuke button...But who really knows what will go down...:icon_confused:

Now if an asteroid hits the earth...we're all screwed......:thefinger:

Exactly what I was thinking.

The way I've thought about it really is if it is the end of the world you really are truly effed. So why bother stocking up on anything. If it's the apocalypse, a TRUE apocalypse there will be no survivor. If there is a lead up just go do something you've always wanted to do and live an excellent last bit to life.

exactly word for word of my thoughts. but i still think it may be kinda fun at least trying to survive, like Call Of Duty style. it the end of the world, what have you got to loose?

That is true, I'm sure a lot of us spend some time running through "I am Legend" type scenarios in our heads.
