lug wrench needed/tire carrier question

I just purchased a 90 B2 for my daughter's 1st car. Found the jack in the back and the long hand crank under the hood, but no joy on a lug wrench. I see all the tire/wheel upgrades out there, so was wondering if anyone has an OEM lug wrench to sell? Also, on the inside of the swing-away tire carrier, there is a spring clip retainer, like maybe that's where the lugwrench goes? I know the little compartment behind the passenger seat is where it's supposed to be stored, but just curious. Loving the site, have already fixed quite a few things and learning more everyday about this cool little truck and site!

I don't use OEM lug wrenches because I find the star wrench much better...you can get one about a foot long and it stows pretty good...but if you want OEM...maybe try the junkyard...

Just go to the auto parts store and buy a 4 way lug wrench for 20 bux. Get a small bottle jack while your at it, the scissors jack is great, but bottle jack is just security.

Just go to your local auto parts store and get a 4 way lug wrench. They are a lot better than the factory knucklebuster...

Are you doing it for the utility or the look? because a different one will make your life easier in the event that you or your daughter actually have to change a tire on the side of the road. In the rain. Late for an important event.

i took out my oem wrench and went for a 4 way. easier to get those stuck/over tight lug nuts.

That and you can spin the lugs off faster than if you had the regular L shaped wrench.

Yeah a 4 way is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo much easier! I have had to use the bottle jack and stock lug wrench and I could not get the lugs loose and I feel I'm pretty strong. Borrowed my friends 4 way and I could get a foot on one side and a good grip with my hands. Had the tire changed in no time.

OK, your voices have been heard! Getting a four way today from the 'Zone. Not alot of storage space and I was just looking to find something original..and yeah those lugs were pretty tight the 1st time I changed them...BIG breaker bar needed. Gonna have to get her a storage box now...any other options for storing it? What about the clip on the rear tire carrier?

the 4 way is flat enoug that it can be leaned against the side of the interior in the back and you can get spring clips that just screw into the cover to hold it in place, its real nice and doesnt look too tacky.

Yeah sorry, I would just give you my old one but I literally bent it trying to get my lugs of so I don't even have one now.

You could always get her a large breaker bar with a 19mm or 3/4" socket and fit that somewhere as well? or if it still has the factory lug nuts with teh chrome caps I would throw in an 18mm with it. Last thing you want is a stripped lug nut.

slipping an injuring yourself.

Particularly if there is any chance whatsoever your daughter is going to need to use it...

BTW, if a 3/4" socket fits your lugnuts and they appear to have a thin sheet metal cover on them (remove one and examine it closely) Replace ALL of them, the factory lugnuts fall apart without warning, usually when you MUST get one off...

The factory lug wrench won't fit most aftermarket lugnuts and being honest it's more useful as a weapon
than as a tool.

Heres a little tip for breaking stuck lug nuts. Also why you should have a star handle wrench. Just tap the end of the wrench. Not parallel with the tire but perpendicular. I know somebody that was playing white knight helping a girl change a flat tire. He couldn't get the lug nuts loose. I told him to hit the wrench he used a rock and guess what. He was a hero.

I have an OEM lug wrench. It sits 100 miles away, on my mom's carport, under her Mustang, right next to my spare. It's been about as much use to me there as anywhere else.

Go to Sears, buy her a cheap 3 foot breaker bar and a 6 point 19mm socket. That's what I did for my 95 lb sister when she was getting ready to leave for school. The theory (and so far it has worked) is if all else fails and she isn't strong enough, she can set the bar level, and then jump on the end until the nut breaks loose.

The average lug nut is supposed to be torqued to less than 100 ft lbs. A 3 foot bar plus a 100 lb person gives more like +200 lbs of force.


I ran those bastards down with an impact gun and my sister took them off that way.
