My credo
Failing is easy. Everyone can do it.
Short note before passing out for the night.

Seems I've had a small leak at one of my cooler lines on my BII with the A4LD. Didn't notice a thing until I popped out/over a fair amount of snow...and it scraped the under carriage a lot. We found red dots all over the place.

Everything looked and worked normally, so I chalked it up to just a weeping pan gasket..(it's always had a few tiny leaks here and there...)

Went to pull out of my parking spot at work on Saturday....Transmission engaged---pulled forward....SLIPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.....*Bangs back into gear*...Keep in mind I'm no where near any place to get more fluid or check things out... I nursed it back home (20 miles)...Maintained higher RPM's at the stop lights to keep the pressure up (otherwise it would have started slipping again)....Pulled into the spot at home. Checked the fluid... 2 1/2 qts low ?!?!? Took the wifes car to the parts store and got fluid. Refilled it back to full on the dipstick and took it out for a test drive. Took it over to the family garage and found the cooler lines? Clamps where loose. Nice drip drip drip....right onto the exhaust Y-Pipe so it never left a puddle.

Nadda problem with it slipping. Shifts a bit 'different'...(helps when it has the correct level of fluid LOL)... I even took it up a couple of steep hills...didn't slip at all. Been driving it Monday & Tuesday to work..and today was my 120 round trip... It acted pretty good, didn't seem to have any lasting effects and seems fine?

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed--But for the moment? It appears to be driving fairly well? (Ok Ok...So it can't get out of it's own way...and still gear hunts at certain speeds/accel points....(get it under moderate load? and a slight incline? You can actually tweak the gas pedal and have it zip between 2nd and 3rd in it's own rhythm)) It's a quirky little beast. But it went pretty well back and forth 60 miles each way. (fluid was re-checked after driving it Monday and Tuesday. Clean and Pink...Zero burnt smell...and right on the top of the 'hatch' marks.)

Actually sounds pretty normal (not the leaking of course!)

My trans hunts at certain speeds and accel points too..Mainly because I'm running larger tires than stock.

You lucked out!

So far so good. This would have been #4 in the long list of A4LD's that failed. It seems back to normal. I'll keep babying it like always. (I've not a clue how many miles is on the engine alone....the odo was changed out last year at 40,000 something...and I'm sure there was a 1 in front of that....or a 2 LOL.
