so i know that staun and others now are offering dot approved inflatable beadlocks that work like a small inner tube, but has anyone ever tried to put a standard innertube in their tires to see if it would do the same thing? i know a guy that somehow stretched some tiny little car tires over the 20's on his rock crawlin buggy and it works amazingly by running 40lbs in the car tires that are just a hair taller than the rims(they seat down on the inside of it) and 0 to 5 in the larger 40" swampers. just wondering if anyone else had tried this and if it worked for them
i dont have money or even the need for beadlocks but i thought it might be something fun to try and do at home i know a lot of people could benefit from a good lock that dosent require you to grab your ankles for the wheel companies

I believe a standard inner tube will just stretch to fill essentially any voids. If not enclosed in something they get pretty big. The Staun is made from kevlar (IIRC) or some other material that doesn't stretch so the tube only inflates around the rim area and stays flat.

The car tire is a rather interesting concept. Did it just fit down in the rim or was it wide enough to actually sit up against the inner bead of the swamper? (thus mimicking a real Staun) Either way it would help reduce stress along the sidewall at the base of the swamper.

I'm not exactly sure where it was mounted because i didnt see it apart but it was placed in such a way that he could run 40's @ 0 psi climbing boulders and such so it definitely locked the beads pretty well and allowed the swampers to wrap around just about anything

Interesting, I bet stretching a car tire over the wheel bead was fun!

Do you have any more info on this, besides what you posted above? Like a thread somewhere or pics??
