jeep dana 30 swap who's done it?

well im pretty locked on doing this swap if i can find a front axle. the dana 30 seems to be plenty strong with the right upgrades. i was thinking of just running 33s or 35s for now. does any one know what axle year i need to use coils? or should i do a leaf spring swap?

and the reason for a dana 30 is i dont want full size axles..well not yet any ways i wanna keep it on the road for a while and i dont wanna have to get new rims and tires as soon as i put it in. im easy on the gas and from what ive read its just as strong as a dana 35 and thats all i really need. im going for front end flex i have tons of rear flex and no front. i just dont see much flex in a ttb set up unless i put a expensive custom lift kit in.

The best D30 ('95-'99 XJ) is still a hair under that of the D35, mainly due to the smaller R&P gears (I've seen them strip teeth on occasion). 33s should be fine on it, but I'd be hesitant to use anything bigger with it under an RBV (yeah I know Jeep guys run 35s on it all the time, Jeeps are also lighter up front). There are at least a few D30s in use under RBVs however. I'd suggest looking in the RBVs Under Construction section, I recall see at least one right near the top there just recently.

I've got maybe $700 into mine... Not exactly "expensive" (you'll usually blow past that with a SAS), however no doubt it is pretty custom (at least in application of parts used, not so much the parts themselves... Most are available for purchase although I did make a lot of it myself such as the radius arms which kept the cost down somewhat).

The TTB can flex. I didnt have a lot of money into mine and was very happy with it.

Only reason I went strait 1 tons was the strength. I was starting to ask more of the 35 then what it could handle.

I hope to be putting my D30 under my truck in the next few weeks, just got the rest of the stuff needed to get it started to be put under my truck.

Stay out the rocks with it and 36's are fine. Muds alot easier on parts.

Anything bigger than 33 in the rocks and not so good. Good axle, and plenty of aftermarket, just cost $$ to get one right.

heres an 05 with a D30 5inch lift rocking 38 15.50's as a daily and beat to death on the trails and hasnt broke anything yet with rocking the38's for 30,000 miles

Just finished mine up about a month ago and love it. I have more then a grand into it due to I bought some of the best longarms I could find. Check out my build thread, link is i my sig. As for tires, I plan on 32s that I'm getting cheap but are new off a coworker plus rims.

I did the swap on my 88 I am running 37's with moly axles. I have not had a problem yet and have pushed it harder and harder each time I have been out in it. I am running YJ springs in the front and I stuffed the passenger side so far that it took the fender off it's lower mount. Here are some pics and I'll see what I can do with getting some of the setup later.

hmm...idk, id just get a eb 44 if u can find one, its easier (bolt in) stronger and has alot more support for upgrades, i have comfortable run 40s locked with a eb 44 and molys
