The Bronco II is a great vehicle, but it's no substitute for the real thing. (runs away to avoid the angry mob)

This is actually my parents jeep, awhile ago they said if I wanted to do the work on it and get it roadworthy, it was mine.
But I always thought it was in much worse shape than it is, once I started really looking at it, I realized it's really not so bad.

It needs a body, and engine, and I'm getting a nearly free parts Yj to supple most of that.
Luckily the frame, transmission, and most other parts are in great shape.

I haven't completly desrted though, in a few years I'll probably get a ranger to go with it, I love the CJ, but no matter how much work I put into it, it will never be a great daily driver.

the best way to make a great jeep is to take ALL of the jeep stuff out and replace it with ford or chevy stuff, go get a drivetrain from an old chevy or ford truck (with solid axles and new process t-cases) and you'll have an unstoppable rig

GASP!
The angry mob will be after you next!

Actuallly I wouldn't mind droping a chevy 350 in it, but the Yj's comming with a fuel injected 4 cylinder, so that will have to do.

Some day I might just do what you suggested, but I wan't to get this thing running on a budget of about $1500-$2000, so stuff like that will have to wait.

i have only ever driven fords, but i'm not a die hard chevy hating ford fan. i buy AMERICAN, regardless of what it is.

i hear ya on the tight budget, the jeep stuff just breaks down too much for my liking. my buddy in high school drove an 84 cj7 on 35's, 4.56's, locked with stock 258 I6 and stock D30 and model 20. the thing was ALWAYS breaking down, he only wheeled it maybe once a month and probably not even that much, it did awesome when it was running though

good luck on the build. if you're gonna lift it more, do a spring over....you can use the stock leaves and get a good bit of lift without having to buy new springs

DUDE, where in south jersey are you?! I just got back from Millville, NJ at my aunt's house for the weekend =D

(in the vineland/millville area)

Also went to atlantic beach and drove up on the sand. but left because it was too packed.

I suggest taking care of that rust first! pull the body and have it professionally sandblasted, then patch it, clean up edges, and then a repaint.
Same with frame, only more primer and more aggressive paint.

My Ranger was/is the same way... only I didn't wheel it in high school. Only wheeled it a couple times since I graduated.

Right now it is sitting with a blown brake line, and an engine that is blown as soon as I want to admit it. :annoyed:

Stuff gets old and breaks, doesn't matter who's emblem is on the grille.

at the end of the day, its still just a jeep

if ur getting a yj with a good frame stick at cj tub on it. the yj frame is waaaay stronger then a cj frame

With 35" tires, I'm not suprised.
With stock axles I'll probably stick to 31".

For the lift
I think I'm going to use a small (maybe 2.5") suspension lift.
The springs and shocks are shot, so I might might as well do the lift.

I'm in Tabernace, your free to drop by if your in the area.

Now that you mention the frame, I just thought, how do you derust the inside of it? Seal it up an fill it with some sort of rust stripping liquid?

I hadn't really thought of that yet.

Thats a possibility, I'll decide after I see it.

I'll take that as a complement....

Auh, come to the right person my child :icon_twisted:

You want to remove everything from the frame that will cover it up (engine, tranny, body, etc.) and then wirebrush, sand blast, or sand paper the frame to death, bare metal, then 2 or 3 coats of primer, and 1 coat of heavy duty engine paint or bed liner

I suggest keeping the cj frame, lighter + durable still

They let you register that thing!? That looks dangerous as hell! I'll steer far away from that jeep.

lighter maybe but stronger no, the frames on those flex like no other. im not 100% but im shure the yj frames are fully boxed, i kno the tj frames are

Lol
I wondered how long that would get past.
Sorry, I like the Bronco II, but personally I just like Jeeps even more.
Biggest reason would be it's a convertible, even a choptop bronco ii usually has the cab around you.

I'm figuring I'll use a wire brush on an angle grinder for most of it, maybe sandblast the hard to reach corners.

But what I'm still wondering is how to do the inside of it, maybe seal it up, fill it with water, and use electrolysis?

I'll take a close look at it tomarrow and see what I can think of.

Um...
Did you read my original post?
It needs a body and an engine, for a start.

It hasn't been on the road in years.
