I am replacing my exhaust system (again). This time it needs to be replaced from the manifold back. There are two bolts that go through a flange into the manifold and hold the catalytic converter on. I am having a hell of a time getting these bolts out. Do they use threadlocker on these or is it just age?

I need to add fliud to my power steering pump often. Before I start replacing parts arbitrarily, I would like to know where these typically start leaking. Should I replace the hoses first? Should I go with a pump seal kit or just replace the whole assembly? Is there a chance that it is leaking from the gear box?

I also need to add fluid to my clutch reservoir. Where does this typically leak at? Could it be a master or slave cylinder failure?

Thanks

When i need to find a leak what i do is clean the whoe area off well. scrap the gunk off use a brush then wash with something like simple greeen. You will then be able to find the leak and the area will be clean for you to repair.

The other leak is probably from the slave. if fluid is coming form the tranny it is probably the slave. look on the firewall for fluid if it is leaking there it is the clutch master cylinder

I never had to remove the bolts you are talking about but if a sawzall will fit in there maybe you can use that

When I bought my ranger it would dump fluid out the bottom of the gearbox as fast as you could pore it in. A lower seal kit did the trick. The pitman arm sucked to get off. If you have slop in your stearing wheel and everthing else is good. It can be adjusted at the stearing box wile replacing seals.

the bolts are just rusted, you can spray penetrating oil on the backside of them from under the hood. it will pool up in the holes and soak in over time. an impact gun works well.

as for the power steering leak. find out where its leaking before buying parts, start with the pump, lines, and then steering gear.

and you said you are losing fluid from the clutch res., but you didn't mention any problem with clutch operation.. this tells me you shuold be looking on your floorboard/carpet for fluid leaking into the cab from the clutch master cylinder, if you have a remote reserviour you should check the connecting from for leaks

I managed the bolts on the manifold. I was out of PB Blaster and was using Liquid Wrench. So, I was just being impatient. I just needed to wait longer for the LW to work.

I guess I should just spray degreaser all around the power steering and clean that area up. It's a real mess. Perhaps I will spot the leak.

Well, about every two weeks, the fluid has leaked out enough that it becomes hard to shift. Sometimes I can pump the clutch before shifting other times I have to rev the engine and power shift. My roof leaks when it rains, so it might be hard to spot fluid leaking into the cab. It does have a remote reserviour, so I'll start my search there.
