8.8 with disk brake swap into 88' ranger=NO Rear Brakes?

hey guys, i swapped and 8.8 from an explorer into my 88' ranger. the 8.8 has disk brakes. i ran the brake lines and started the truck and went to bleed the brakes. there is a steady stream of fluid coming from the bleader screws but the brakes dont grab at all. ive bled them over and over and it seems like there isnt enough pressure to close the calipers because with the brakes applied i can spin the rear wheels freely.another thing i noticed on this truck unlike my 97 ranger is that there is no proportioning block for the brake lines is that normal on an 88'? just straight lines from the master cylinder. could the master cylinder not be powerful enough for the dick brakes? if so what do i need to swap in? any help would be great guys thank you.

BOMK, all vehicles from the 50's to present had proportionin valves. I had a 87 Ranger Supercab 2wd a while back, and it had one. The front brakes do most of the stoppin of a vehicle, the rears just balance it out. The proportionin valve stablizes the pressure.
Did you run the lines or is that the way you bought it?

well i bought the truck used a year ago for a project and the previous owner had rerun the brake lines from the master cylinder. i did run the brake lines on the 8.8 but from the master cylinder to the rear axle there is no proportioning valve between the master cylinder and the rear end or the front brakes for that matter. does this matter for a vehicle not equipped with ABS?

did you replace the calipers and pads like i did when i did my axle swap?

if so, check to make sure you didnt make the same mistake i did! it was late, tired......drinking a little and we did the final hardware etc....
only to find i had no rear brakes! well soft brakes all around.
a month later a friend was over and i had the tire off and he laughed and said "uour calipers are upside down".
make sure the bleeders are up!

a rule i will never ever forget!

yeah... if the bleeder is on the bottom, theres gonna be a trapped air pocket that wont bleed out...

im almost 100% sure that is my problem then! stupid mistake..i will swap the calipers from side to side tomarrow and report back. thanks guys!

i said the same thing and now i can laugh at my mistake, knowing i will NEVER repeat it again!
Bleeders UP! Bleeders UP! always repeat that doing my brakes!

it's amazing how something so simple can make that much difference, and the fact they CAN be bolted on that way just makes you need to pay more attention!

glad i could help somne else with my mistake! but i guess that is how we all learn, from our mistakes

Did a Explorer 8.8 swap in my 94 Ranger. I used some new bleeders on called "Speed Bleeders". Worked really well and expedited the job for future reference.
