basically, anyone under 21 has to display a decal on there plate showing they are minors....just great for predators

Scott read that through again, it only applies to those with provisional licenses. 7 years ago when I first got mine those were the same rules with the exception of the new sticker and changing the midnight hour to 11 pm. You've got to be getting close to a normal license by now anyway right? I can see why it upsets you but its not a big deal anyway. All they really want is more $ otherwise they wouldn't have done this...which leads me to my next question...if the stickers are $4 and they had to print all those letters and this new sticker...how much revenue is this really producing?

Edit: Just noticed this letter came from your insurance company and not MVC, that changes the outcome of my last question.

I think the key part to this is #3, 4 dollar stickers for front and back license plates...they always have to make money on something, thats probably the main reasoning behind all this. On top of the money for the tags its possibly more money when they pull over and ticket people for breaking the rules.

i turn 18 in july, after may 1st...so it applies to me still

I don't think it is all about money. The stickers would be to help lawmen identify young drivers to help them enforce the law.
Also noticed they don't mention anything about fines for violators. Wonder what they are. Here in California they are getting ready to pass legislation the raise the age of new drivers to 18.

which is one more reason that california is an oppressive nanny state.

And when they figure out that 18-20 year olds are bad drivers with no experience and irresponsible driving habits, some idiot will try to raise the driving age to 21. Then you can drink AND drive for the first time together.

I agree with that. When I got my provisional license I couldn't drive between 9pm-5am unless I had a job that had me working after/between those hours. I also couldn't have more than 1 person in the vehicle that wasn't family.

i think its bs so im not putting a sticker on my trucks. i only have to wait until june to be 18 so i doubt anyone will notice. and its only for the first year you have your license if your under 21, so if you get your license at 19 you need it until 20. the thing that really sucks is you can only have 1 person in the car whether or not they are your family. there was an article about a lady with triplets that has to find a way to get them all to school because they all cant ride in the same car.
