13MPG Highway on a 2.3L?

my truck got bad gas mileage and i replaced the O2 sensor and fixed it

Maybe I should try that. They don't look too expensive, and if I stick with the OEM brand I should be set. My interior warning beep goes off a lot also, but every time I happen all of my gauges are fine. Sometimes it happens if I hit a bump or something similar. I am not sure if this would have anything to do with the O2 sensor.

The worst i ever get is about 19mpg and that is in the winter when i have it idling a lot. I average about 24. I would change the plugs, wires, clean the iacv, clean the trottle body, clean the maf, the pcv valve. maybe do the seafoam(do seafoam before you change the plugs), some peeps might suggest changing the o2 sensor before the cat. the one after the cat just reads info. You can get a direct fit one online for $35

ps. Is your speedometer working properly. Are you sure your brakes are not dragging?

The buzzer is not associated with the o2 sensor. I know the dome light gets funky because of the switch on the doors.spray the door latches well with wd-40 and see if that helps.. i looked up the o2 sensor for you earlier it is $35 online for a direct fit

I see thanks, yes my dome light used to never (or rarely) turn off by itself so I pulled the fuse to it. I don't really miss having it. Yeah on ebay they seem to go for around that, where exactly is it located on the truck?

My dome light has other things on it so I could not pull the fuse. I just removed the light until I fixed it. spray the latch with wd-40 . I bet that will solve it. those switches are a common issue with these trucks and evveryone just sprays them and it usually works.

I bought a SNG o2 sensor for a pontiac vibe form this guy http://www.discountoxygensensor.com/index.php it worked out great and they were the least expensive

I will have to check that out, thank you.

Passenger side- threaded into the exhaust manifold towards the down pipe.

Thanks!

OFF TOPIC :icon_twisted:
your chimes could also be from your airbag stuff, my sister has a 96 ranger that would chime all the time, after she took it to the Ford place in Newport, Tn. and they said they had no clue, I read the manual for the truck, and after counting the way it chimed and how often, it turned out to the the little light in that little pod where you can turn off the passenger side bag, I changed that and the chime never can back on again..

BACK ON TOPIC :headbang:
I would pay the extra to get the Ford plugs and wires, made a world of differance on my Ranger, and also I bought the high dollor GM plugs and wires for my wifes car and it made a world of differance on her car also.

I'm never buying Bosch and Accel brands again.,:dunno:

On 60v6 Bosch plugs are known to go bad really soon because of my cars waste spark system (3 coil packs, each one driving 2 plugs). Accel coils are also known to have a high failure rate on our cars too.

check this........

Hi new member here but from what you described it sounds like during the warmer months you had decent gas mileage but now its turned colder its gone down ..... so if I have understood you right first thing I would do would be look at the thermostat . If it isnt there or is stuck open then your mileage would go down hill fast ...... the ranger was designed to use a 195 degree thermostat and without it the eec will read the motor as being cold and supply a richer mix. I have the same thing going on with mine but with no garage I am waiting for warmer weather to install one lol . Let me know if this helps .

I agree your engine needs to get to operating temp so it runs efficiantly. I would only install a motorcraft #F8CZ8575AA} $12 at rockauto. you also might want a good new rad cap .

Well my engine warms up normally, when I get on the highway after a few minutes it warms right up to normal levels even in this cold weather.

Also, interesting bit on the airbag, i need to check that out.

check your gas tank, it might be leaking gas??

X2 for the oxygen sensor. And if this is the case, I would not wait for the warm weather. Running an overly rich mixture will ruin the catalytic converter. Around here (CA) they are running $200 for an approved replacement.

could be the 02 sensor and exhaust leak.. odds are your truck has no tachometer...i noticed my mileage slowly getting worse(my job i start up at 5am and shut down at 5pm and only go about 50 miles of start&stop driving with a utility cap full of tools..)i could tell my trans was getting tired(235k on original A4ld)noticed i was taching was higher than i shoukd at all times...i would install a tach to see if your trans is wastin your fuel.

I don't have a tach but by ear the shifting and RPM sounds okay.

If I fill my tank it leaks a good amount then immediately stops. I am almost certain my filler tube is cracked, that is another project needing to be done. My muffler also had holes in it, and will be replaced as well.
