rear winch point

i dont have money for a reciver hitch and im trying to figure outa good place to mount some hooks or a chain to the frame for recovery...

what have those of you done in this case?

go to a jy and get a receiver hitch most of the explorers and rangers have them and they are cheap if you have a u pull it

I usually just weld a d ring bracket to the underside of the frame with several bolts through.

do the explorer hitches fit up on the ranger frame, if not what kinda modification to the hitch is required?

i like the D ring idea though.

An explorer hitch will not bolt right up, fab work will be needed as the frame on an 'ex' is wider then the rangers. They're common as dirt in the wreckers, so check regularly and you'll find one soon enough.

yeah id look for a ranger hitch best bet or mod or build your own out of 2" reciever tube.
this would work in the mean time. I wouldnt yank on it but its enough to winch a ranger from a snowbank.

so i guess the question now is what will have to be done to the hitch in order to keep the integrity but be able to mount it up.

pretty sure you will find a ranger hitch that will bolt right on. put a post here in the 'parts wanted' forum for one and check craig's list as well.
all you need then are the grade 8.8 bolts, washers, and nuts. most of the hitches line up with the 4 existing holes on the frame. the other 2 usually have to be drilled out. bolting one in will take a bit longer than pulling it at the jy due to drilling those 2 holes. good luck.

ya get your self a reciever dont do what is in the pic not even in a pinch all you will do is pull the bumper off they are made for ROLLING loads

well the idea is just to move it a few feet to get un stuck if i were to sink in snow or something of the likes.

more of a short term thing, long term will defiantly be a hitch.

ya but you dont always know you is pulling you and if they know how to pull not yank and it depends on where you are stuck and in what you can not pull at any angle like that and if you had a reciever you can

Yea, I'd try to get a hitch, it's the best way to install a rear recovery point unless you fab something that connects both frame rails. In a pinch you can pull from the bumper of the older Rangers and Bronco IIs, and you can put tow hooks in the rear, but it's best if you have a hitch because it distributes the forces of a yank to both frame rails - which means there is less of a risk of damaging a frame rail if you're really stuck.

I have these for recovery... I just haven't figured out how to attach the shackle to my truck... lol
