disable the light then hold your kid under the door and see if it goes back up no maybe you can wirenut the wires together to complete the circuit im thinking the light closes a circuit like a micro switch check the voltages and for continuity open or closed the lights on one side the other side is the switch just a thought i dunno if you cut the wires you can allways put them back together

I ended up taping them together above the door. I have not had nay problems since.
