They are decent cars. But 2500$, for the one you have? I'd of offered him no more than 1800$. Your car seems have a fair amount of undercarriage rust.

It's a new york car buddy, they all look like that. I paid about 400 under bluebook.

Good good cars. My mom had, well as, sitting in the driveway, her '97 escort sedan, black, 5-speed. It always ran great, until something weird happened. All the spark-plugs got chewed up, after making the weirdest noise ever. Almost 200K on her though. Then she got a used Honda , def not as happy with it.

&&I know, about the center radio/air control thing! wtf? I thought it was cool when we got the car, I was 6. She got a deck at cartoys, and they had tp put a new face on everything.

intake valve seat separated from the head on cyl #4. after it broke into little pieces, it made it's way through the intake into the other cylinders destroying the spark plugs and probably mangling the pistons and cylinder walls... dont ask how i know...

Oh dang. Would it be worth fixing? Or new engine?

New engine, they're everywhere. Escorts are one of the most common cars in the US. Well, NY anyways. I see them EVERYWHERE.

Oh, I have plenty. I also have a auto reverse cassette, basically a cassette with a cord that can plug into any headphone jack to play music from mp3 players, portable cd players, etc. I just want a new stereo that has either a USB from the back that I can run to my glove box, or one on the front. That way my 5.4 gigs of music that I have on my computer can go with me anywhere. I'll only keep maybe half that on the jump drive though.

I have that type of stereo in my ranger. It's the Alpine ida-X100. I couldn't be happier with it.

The whole ida series has that feature, I believe. Some of them are less expensive than the one I bought.

I've never been a fan of alpine. But I do have strong support for pioneer.

The one I have in my truck is JUST starting to act up, and it's been in three different vehicles since about 01. Which is a good enough lifespan for me. And it still manages to outperform many of the other systems I see, which are newer and supposedly "top of the line." Hell, it's probably only a wiring issue anyway. I might just redo all the wiring and tweek a few parts on the inside so I can have a good radio in my truck. I'll only be driving it May-August anyway so I don't need the prettiest one out there.

Oh dang. Would it be worth fixing? Or new engine?

with the 2.0 spi?? no not really... if you can put an engine in it for a couple hundred bucks, it may be worth it but i have heard of this problem on engines with 100k miles... so really any junkyard engine you get your hands on may spit a valve seat without warning. i guess its up to you to decide if its worth that risk. if you've gotta pay someone to put the engine in it, it would not be worth it IMO
